OK, I have read a ton of material between here and the CFC site regarding restricted/prohibited. I have also seen where some guns have been banned due to similar parts to prohibs and have read statements where guys are saying there are bans on guns because they look like or are replicas of restricts/prohibs.

Now, I am wanting to get myself a 10 22 conversion kit for sh*ts and giggles. Which ones are legal and which ones aren't? I am talking strictly about the kits like the Promag etc... that are simply a plastic shell covering up an everyday 10/22. Are there certain conversion kits that are not allowed and some that are? I read some stuff about an Mp5 navy look alike being prohib. Is that simply because it looks like /is a replica of a prohib or does it have to have some interchangeable parts?

Is there a Coles notes for this crap? LOL

I know for sure, any aftermarket bullpup design is prohibated. You should check out center balanced systems, there 597 conversion is sweet. My friend has the marrader kit. Looks cool but there are issues with the mags.
I have the mossberg tactical 22. Chopped the handle and front sight off. Looking for a barrel shroud now.
Don't know about other kit than the promag.

You're safe buying any kit in Canada, prohibited items dont get imported. You also wont be able to buy them out of the states for that reason. The rules are basically: must remain over 660mm OAL, barrels shorter than 18" must be manufactured at that length and if so can be swapped in, again so long as OAL of firearm remains over 660mm. Folding, collapsing, espresso making stocks are all good to go, aftermarket bullpup stocks are prohibited

That makes sense. Thanks for the info.

Little_airwolf. wow, that site has some wicked looking guns!!! That 597 unit looks nice! I like the white. I could hit that with the airbush and make a real sweet design:)

One more question. What If I were to build a conversion kit? Again, strictly a shell covering a 10 22. Do I have to be sure that it does not look like a prohib or does that matter?

If I could go back I would get a Troy Ind. T22 Kit instead of buying a Ruger SR22. I could never find the T22 kit though which lead me to believe they were illegal or something.

Still love my SR22 though.

No different than installing an aftermarket kit like the Marauder. But to be clear, there is no workaround for bullpups aside from designing and manufacturing your own. A good idea that was brought up recently was a new manufactured bullpup that takes Ruger 10/22 parts but cannot be fired with the stock removed or in a standard rifle setup. Anything non-bullpup is legal so long as the basic length rules are followed. Looks have absolutely nothing to do with it thankfully. Find and browse the recent 10/22 pics thread, there are some very nice builds in there from Thompson SMGs, AKs, M1 Carbines, AR-15s etc. One member even built a grease gun kit for his, all legal so long as you follow the rules.

OK, so as long as it means minumum lengths and is not a bullpup, anything goes? No one has had a roblem recreating a prohibited chassis?

I was looking at possibly doing one of the HK submachine guns (prohib, not restricetd) within the length requirements. The RCMP is OK with that???

Who knows...try it and let us know..if you end up in cuffs be sure to send a post card to someone with a computer so we can let everyone else know not to do it :p
