Hi guys,
Just wondering if you can skeet shoot with any type of 12 gauge shotgun. Either pump action, short barrel, etc...

I'm thinking of getting either a Mossberg 500, Maverick or maybe a Shorter Grizzly...would that work well enough? Is it allowed? Is pumping between clays to long?

As long as it's legal length. Although a barrel less than 28" for skeet and trap (for sure), would be very "whippy" on the swing and follow through. Remember that skeet is shot with an open choke IC or a little more, trap with mod or full.
 
Lots of guys at the clubs I shoot skeet at shoot pump guns, Everything from .410 up to 12 ga. I tried it once and found I am not as fas as I once was. And I hate bending down to pick up empties, so I use an O/U.

I have a mossberg 500 combo and I shoot skeet and trap with it all the time. I'm no expert but I have fun! My one shooting buddy has a beautiful Citori OU and I think he is a bit jealous when I nail the doubles with my pump - kinda like a stick shift vs. an auto transmission; with the pump, you really feel like you are doing something!
 
you can shoot any trap/ skeet, sporting with anyshotgun that is "non-restricted" length.
and you can also pump for skeet. The question is.. do you want to improve on your scores or get to know the beauty of skeet / trap/ sporting?
then in the future you will need specific shotgun that fits each individual needs but for casual and to blow clay up.. id say go out have fun with any kind of shotgun you have and enjoy!!!

Some long time members will look at your shotgun and say " you need a skeet / trap gun! dont listen to them unless you are serious about learning the sport inside / out.
many people have different opinion with what choke, length, gun to use...

but id say just grab whatever your most comfortable with and bust them clays!!
 
I use pump guns a lot in skeet. I like to have fun and even use a dual pistol gripped mossberg no stock and an 18.5" cylinder barrel with a heat shield. I love sxs guns but pumps r fun
