Shorten PAL Approval Times

Hi All, Thanks for this great thread info, I applied for my PAL / RPAL on Feb 20 2012 and I've been waiting and waiting for a call. I followed your directions to call in and have now conducted my interview and interviewed as a referance for my friend. My referances are both going to call in for me and speed up the process.
Thanks again

I guess I'll join the line.
Mailed my application from BC on Feb. 27....no sign of anything online.
I just called in (Mar 23 afternoon) and I was able to talk to a rep. They checked whatever it is that they check and they say that they haven't received it yet. (4 weeks from BC seems excessive .... even for CanadaPost!)
I was advised to wait another week and if it doesn't show up by then...to re-apply.
For me....if anything can go wrong it will....and it seems to be.

BTW...I got very nice and professional service at the toll free number.

Oh god damn it, I faxed my test results to the wrong number! I guess I was stupid to think that the fax number on the Canadian Firearms Programs website, the one that says fax, would be the proper number to send my results to.... I had to call in and have them give me the correct number. 1-800-411-0622

Just FYI

So I am participating in the PAL and RPAL safety courses tomorrow and Sunday,
If I follow your instructions, mail in both test scores and my pictures this coming friday (one week from now) I SHOULD be able to have my PAL # by May 11th?

I am planning a camping trip and would LOVE to bring up a .22 or SKS

Do you mean April 11th? And it's possible you may, yes.

So here my situation

i called in today concerned as my app has been there for a month but not online
i was told it was there and do my interview and get my references to call in

now i look online and its been there since the 24th but with my last name having a q instead of g

does this mean i can call my CFO since my 28 day is up and also have them correct my last name

side note its Friday are they open Saturdays?

Quoted from the RCMP website, "All of the CFO offices can generally be accessed from 9.a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, in all Canadian time zones, by calling 1 800 731-4000 (Canada and the U.S.) or 1 506 624-5380 (outside Canada and the U.S.)"

Being open on Saturdays would be far too convenient, as people like me are currently forced to request time off work any time we have business with places that operate on "normal hours".

I'm going in for my CFSC tomorrow! Wish me luck, or at least a temporary absence of stupidity.

With delivery time to CFC plus a minimum 28 waiting period; end of April at the earliest.

Oh ok. I am just going to mail them than. I have two copies what one do I mail or does it matter?

Fax them and mail them, it'll get the license mailed out that much sooner.

Doesn't matter. Unless something has changed in the last 6 months, both copies are identical. It says at the bottom who gets which one, but I could not tell any difference between and sent 1 copy for CFSC and 1 copy for CRFSC. License was issued @ 28 days.

I thought you can just fax them and that's fine, not faxing and mailing?? Any clarification? The CFC never mentioned anything about also having to mail it in. Thanks

Hurrah, got 98% on the written and 100% on the practical. Whee!

Now I can't say I've never learned anything. Going to mail in the application on Monday, March 26. With some luck and my pretty face I think it's reasonable to expect my PAL by the end of April, right? Maybe early May to account for excessive mailing times and weekends. The only possible hangup I see is that as I've only recently moved here the only available references I have are my sister and her husband, and in general using family as references seems frowned upon.
Has anyone else used family as references, and was there any problems caused by it?

Note to self: Do not send nude picture with application, that's sure way to get rejected ;)

Hey! We're score twins!
-Brass is not a common shotgun pellet load.
-Damn photocopy looking like a partition when it was FMJ

I mean the # only, (theoretically) I could have the PAL # earlier and buy a firearm from a dealer or friend willing to use just the number to complete the transaction, grab the reggie and book it out to the wilderness by MAY 11th, correct?

I have my references, paperwork, picture, test scores, and am just waiting till I ace tomorrow's CRFSC to send it all in together, after the 28 day period I call the BC CFO and request my number, then I use the above method and bingo bango!
