What kind of rifle for Precision shooting

The more I look at various F Class shooting disciplines the more I like the idea of Precision. However that also impacts the type of rifle I need to be looking for. What are people who shoot Precision using? - without going over the $1500 price point for the rifle, and then what type of scope.

I've been working my way towards F-class shooting. I picked up a Savage M12 F-class last fall. I haven't decided what I want to get for glass. I have one sightron and I'm really liking it so far. A Nightforce BR scope is also on my mind but they have less elevation travel so thats one down side.

The rifle fits in to your price range nicely. I got mine for $1350.

I think those Savage target rifles are just the thing for people wanting to get into f-class. In fact, they aren't too darn bad for experienced shooters either!
 
If you are interested in FT-R as opposed to F-Open, I would suggest looking at the Savage FT-R or Savage Palma rifles instead of the BR. I really like the stock on the palma and if I wasn't getting a rifle built, I would have bought one myself.

That said, for the money a Savage FT-R for scope shooting or a Savage Palma if you plan to shoot irons. I mean really, what do you need a scope for? The targets are huge and only 1000 yards away at most. Iron sights rule!
 
Hang out with people who shoot what you want to get into. Become an information sponge. Saves buying stuff twice!! Some one on here once said, "buy good quality stuff and feel the pain once". Buy lower quality stuff then have to upgrade. Feel the pain twice.
I've shot 50 different precision rigs and now own 2 Savage Mdl 12 F/TR and 1 mdl 12 F Class and 1 mdl 12 LRPV rifles. They fit my price bracket. 2 wearing NightForce optics.(his & hers)

I have had no problem getting out to 1200yds with 2 of my 3 NF BR scopes and 20MOA rails.

My 260 on a Rem 700 topped out 2 mins short but my 6BR on the XR-100 had room to spare at that distance.

YMMV

If shooting F-Class the BR scopes with 20moa rail are more than enough for all distances in question as we only shoot out to 900m/1000yds max.
