(NEED ADVICE) Your Favorite Powder / Bullet Combo For The 22-250 Rem

Hi guys, I just picked up a new 22-250 yesterday (my first 22-250 and can't wait to shoot it) and I've never reloaded for that caliber, in-fact I've only been reloading now for a little over a year, so I'm wondering if some of you could list your favorite powder and even your favorite bullet for this caliber to give me an idea where to start.

I am aware that what works great for your gun may not work great for mine, but, if I get say 10 out of 15 guys for example saying they use the same powder then that's probably a good powder for me to try rather then starting off blind so to speak.

52 gr Berger, 36 grains of varget and I get 3800 out of a 26" Remington. 1/3 MOA with my AI chassis set-up at 350 yards. Oh, br-2 primers in lapua brass.

Since you have a 1in12 twist I would take advantage of the high BC's of the 53gr V-Max (.290).

Ive had great results with Varget or RL15. If your a hunter I would lean to Varget as its not as temp sensitive.
 
regarding powder ... I have been happy with Varget for a wide range of bullets.

regarding bullets ... depends what you want to do. ie target are shred up gophers.

I live rural and shoot (my 22-250) from by back deck so have choosen to go with frangible bullets to help reduce bullets from bouncing of rocks etc and ending up somewhere not desired. In particular I like barnes 36 gr varmit granades and have also used BL-C2 with good results with the barnes.

If you want coyote I would go with something a bit heavier and frangible. Target I would suggest A max or somethig like that.

To me powder selection was the easy part .. and varget is a favorite with many. Bullet selection was a bit harder and really depends on what I want to do.

I probably should have mentioned that, yes I do intend on using this gun for hunting but also at the range, though I'm not into competitive shooting, I just like shooting for the fun of it and to work on my accuracy.

It seems so far that most reply's are favoring Varget so I'll most likely give that the first try and I like that Hornady bullets are getting the nod, I happen to like Hornady and have used them for my other guns since I started reloading

In my savage 22" 1-12 twist 22-250, I tried 60gr Hornady SP and the venerable IMR 3031 to very great success. I would also echo faster burn rates as suggested above. Had some I3031 set aside and found this combo proved very well indeed (2" groups at 300m). Next tried some 52TSX with same powder with good results as well. My very old and well used Hornady handbook suggests this as well as others. Newer H series may provide some better stability in variable temp ranges.
