stick with the barnes bullets , unless your shooting paper ......
if the cup and core bullets don't vaporise when they leave the barrel ( some bullets will do that when driven fast enough ) there is a good chance they will just blow up on the hide of a animal up close ........
i've found hornady's accurate on paper , and use them to work up a load .
my actual hunting rounds are either 140 or 160 grain x bullets .
even then i try not to shoot anything closer than 250-300 yards . lots of jellied meat and blood otherwise .
i hit a deer in the spine at 50 yeards once , more than 1/2 the meat was turned into dog food instantly .

I've also used bonded and partition bullets. As mentioned, I only use "regular " bullets to practice and in the beginning of the load work up process. - dan
Back when the 7STW was the latest new thing, i shot a coyote running straight away at about 90 yds with a 140gr Ballistic Tip (MV 3550) in the azz, the bullet knocked him rolling end over end in a cloud of fur , fleas and dust. After coming to a stop the coyote gathered his shakey legs under himself and ran off over a hill.
I was too busy laffin to shoot again. I don't think that bullet drew any blood. Further testing on deer confirmed that the bullets were just junk when driven at STW speeds

I've seen a couple of caribou die from a 160gr Sierra GK from a 7STW at under 200 yards. Both died with no argument. No excessive meat damage, either.
I'd use a C&C for practice, and TSX/TTSX for hunting, but C&C bullets can, and do, work. They just have a much better chance of failing when it counts.

Correct...frm my tests...Hornady 139 sp's will not even make it to a 100 yard target if driven fast enought (3500 + if I recall correctly).

That totally depends on twist rate 
I've shot dozens of deer with 139 and 154 Hornady Interlocks in my STWs. Most of them exited. Some moose and elk had their ends expedited with the 154s as well.
Then there were all those 175s that I loaded for my buddy's tupperware sako. He's killed half of Africa with those, then switches to 154s when he gets home.
My current (main) STW is picky about what it will shoot. It likes 140 grain TSXs and not much else. They don't pile up animals like a softer bullet, but are better than nothing.

I worked with several STW's over the years.
My go-to bullet was the 160 Partition.
One STW would not shoot it, so I dropped down to the 150 Partition, which it liked.
I shot Moose, Elk, Muleys, Whitetails and Bear [Blacks]
Only recovered a couple of bullets.
Always was pleased with the results.
I shot one muley with the 140 Ballistic Tip at right around 275 yards.
Exited, but the exit was very large and a lot of peripheral bloodshot damage.
Stay with a good quality bullet for hunting in your STW.
C&C bullets are a bit fragile until you are way out there.
I'm playing with a 7mm RUM at present.
Not even considering using any C&C bullets in it, except for load development.

Had a hard time with 160 partition, shed the nose in the first 2" then went through with little or no tissue damage. 3100 fps 200 yard shot. Took 4 shots to put down a medium bull.
Shot a couple of deer with 175 Sierra SBT's dropped on the spot, worse one lost pretty much the whole front 1/2. Way to much damage.
Had one good kill on a buck @ 100 or so with a 120 Nosler BTBT, going fairly fast 3800 fps, neck shot sunk his antlers about 3" into the mud he went down so hard. I'll bet it would not have been pretty if I hit him in the shoulder.
Pretty much stick with 160 TSX with H-870 now,3100 fps, and also use the gun only for moose and the odd bear hunt. Took a small sow under the chin with this load, bullet went 18" down the center of the spine and was found there only X bullet I have ever recovered. Great caliber but a little to much torque for conventional bullets.

Having a hard time with this, but strange things happen
How would you know it shed it's nose in the first 2"?
Even the back half of a Partition will do a fair amount of damage to lungs, etc..
I shot several moose from 60 - 500 yards with the STW and the 160 Partition started at close to 3300, using old H5010.
Recovered one bullet that passed through and was in the snow on the offside of the moose.
No animal went more than 20 yards after being hit.
No animal required a second shot.
