Hi,
I'm pretty sure this question was already asked and talked about few times, but... I'm new in the precision thing and I would like to know what would be the best combo rifle/scope around 3000$ in .308 to shoot usually between 200 and 600 yards? (no 600+ range near my area)

For now, I would like to use off the shelf ammo right now...

I've heard good things about rem 700 r5 mil spec
Tikka t3 tactical
Savages
And sightron optics...
But I'm open to any suggestion to find the best combo

Thanks for your time!!!:)

i would probably steer away from the tikka being how much the initial cost of it is and shoot for the 700 i believe one of the site sponsors has an amazing deal on one (cant remember which) and from what ive heard sightron seems to be the best bang for your buck, havent really been into savages at all so others would have to give advice on them

Well for about 2500 plus government rape fee of course (tax). you can get a rem 700 5r mil spec with sightron sIII optics night force scope base and a Harris bipod. And you will be off to a excellent start a friend of mine just got a 5r and had it on the 1000 yard gong on his second box of ammo

200-600 yards can be reached with any 30 cal rifle. even just factory savage, ruger, rem700 will do what you need. if you were to go beyond 1000yard with enough punch, then id go with 300WM, 30-378Weatherby mag, 338RUM, but for shelf boxes, 300WM has many choices that are affortable to shoot.
T3's are known with their accruacy but cant beat rem700. its been out in the market for so long and still recieves good rating.
for long range, make sure you get a real good scope, vortex, leupold, nightforce, huskemaw all does the work well. Vortex scopes are on lil affortable sides then others but still works.
If you already have a Remington 700 Long actions, just goto gunsmith and order match grade barrel to install for whatever caliber you want. it will cost you around 600-800 dollars to add on your existing rifle. Another way to get into long range..
Also talk to Mic Mcphee in Kamloops, he used to build matchgrade barrels and been known in gunsmith world in canada, he will not build you one unless you order parts your self and send them to him.
His gunsmithing price arevery good and if you were to spend $2000-3000 just on riflewithout a scope, it is better to just build one to your exact measures.
people will think custom builds are very expensive, wll some it is... but you can get away building one with your rifle for less then $2000 for trigger, stock, barrel, Brake.

savage 10 ba 308 with sightron optics SIII SS 6-24X50 LRMD/CM 3000$ for all... for 600 yard
savage 110ba 300win with sightron optics SIII SS 6-24X50 LRMD/CM 3000$ for all... for 1000 yard
savage 110ba lupua with sightron optics SIII SS 6-24X50 LRMD/CM 3000$ for all... for 1500 yard
