Shooting the 460V

I've been loading for my 5" using the Hornady XTP-MAG bullets and H110, I'll have to pull out the chrony and find some load data to try with the lever-evolution powder.
I'm more interested in finding an accurate load than the fastest load though.

I'm pretty happy with the loads I have, about a grain less than max book and now my hands don't tingle after each shot and there is still a large fireball to warm me up each shot.

I'd like to find a different powder anyway since H110 is so fine it sneaks out of my powder measure when I stroke the handle.

OT but Where's the range your shooting at? I see you're in buckhorn. My dad is in Bobcaygeon. I wouldnt mind shooting up there one time. He has never shot my guns.

ya know there is lots of flame but doesnt seem to kick much, you using full loads there, the one i shot jumped more then that. You must have a grip like a vice.

Those were factory Hornady 200gr IIRC. If not they're still full-house loads. 31gr or 2400 behind a 250gr XTP. When you shoot almost nothing but magnum guns you get used to it. ;) It's way easier to handle than the 45-70 BFR I had.... :eek:

Have you tried Murray Charlton Enterprises? When I first got my 500 S&W, there was no way I could lower the rear sight enough for paper punching with 'lighter loads'. I sent an e-mail request
directly to S&W for a higher front sight blade, for myself and two other locals with the same 8 3/8" model and we had replacements in about two weeks.

Try loading up some 340gr hard cast bullets, then she'll kick.

The one I bought new from Del Selins was shipped to Murray the day after I got it with a defective cylinder. That was last February. It's still there waiting for the replacement parts. No idea if I will ever see my $1300+ investment ever again.

S&W parts performance is NOT impressing me.

And before someone asks, no, del Selins would not take it back, despite the cylinder chambers being very badly scored and burred (manufacturing defect).

Other than changing the grips to something that would 'tame' the recoil a little better than the original rubber Hogue grips it came with, I don't have any complaints. As I've posted in past, it shoots well with anything I've put through it in the way of handloads and no mechanical issues, so far.

I bought a new 460V from Wanstalls, I shot 60 rounds and then the firing pin spring broke. The firing pin would not go back into the frame causing the cylinder to jam. I sent it to Murray Charlton to fix it, he replaced the parts under warrenty. I got it back, fired another 10 rounds and it happened again. I sent it back got the parts replaced again then I sold it.

I was shooting Hornady Custom, 300g FTX. Factory ammo.
 
These last few posts aren't making me happy. I haven't had an issues with my 460v...so far. I picked it up on the EE and shooting Hornady 200g (all I could find).
Maybe I should have kept the Ruger instead LOL...

You sold your redhawk!!!! They are unobtainium!!! I would have bought that in a heartbeat!
 
when i got my 500mag after 50 or so shots the firing pin melted, BUT it was my fault for using large pistol primers and not large rifle... ordered a new firing pin from a dealer, and i installed the new one. since then i've put 1000 rounds with more then half of that HOT loads and heavy bullets without any issues. *knock on wood*
