Shorten PAL Approval Times

Sort of :)

My situation differs in that I will probably get my stamped RPAL results BEFORE PAL license is issued. So I am thinking, as soon as I get RPAL test results back to me, send them out and then call in to CFO asking to amend my initial PAL application to RPAL one. Hope that will work.

That will NOT work.

First of all you will have to apply to the RCMP for your RPAL, not the provincial CPO. Secondly, all RPAL applications require your references to be interviewed. Typically reference interviews are not done when applying for a PAL.

Sorry, I meant to send my RPAL results to CFC (which is part of RCMP, isn't?). I hope my initial PAL application is still there since the status has not been changed from the "Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date".

So why they just do not interview me and my references, then transfer whole thing to CFO for final approval?

Yes the CFC is part of the RCMP.

I still do not believe that they will do what you have hoped for above. You SIGNED an application for PAL not RPAL. They, I believe, will not accept a verbal change request. Remember that this is a government agency.

I'll be shocked if they do what you are hoping for.

Jan 8th - took test
Feb 13th - Received results
Feb 24th - mailed application
Feb 27th - Arrived
March 13th - Showed online
March 28th - Says its in the mail

Is there an actual status update that tells you when it's been mailed out?

The online status will change to "Your application has been processed and your license has been issued." Once this appears, your licence will be printed and verified on the following Thursday, and mailed out on the Friday. I received mine on the following Wednesday, which was my birthday. :D

What he said :D

One thing interesting is they didn't call me or my references. Hmmm

well.. at my house I hardly ever get mail on a Friday.. but I did today.. finally got my PAL in the mail... started on January 7th received it on March 30th... take away the 28 day mess up on my behalf and it was a pretty decent turn around... thanks for this FAQ and everyones input.. now I just have to wait for my RPAL to go through

Anyone waiting on the Ontario CFO, expect to wait a while. My timeline is as follows:

Feb 25: Passed my PAL test
Mar 1: Mailed my application
Mar 5: Application received
Mar 21: Status updated online saying I'm missing info (my test results)

Since this coming Monday will be my 28 days, I called the CFO this morning to check and they're working on tests received on the 28th of Feb today. He said to figure on another 2-3 weeks to receive my results back. Ugh! :( If that's the case that'd make it 7-8 weeks from passing my test to getting results. I'm really hoping it isn't that bad, and I can get them faxed in and things approved quickly once I do!

My application arrived on the 27th of February, but I only did my interview (plus one reference interview) this past friday March 27th. Will it still get processed in the 45 day time frame or will it probably be longer since it took so long to send in test results and do the interview??

And why does it say 45 day wait on the CFC website but it says 28 days in many other places??? Weird.
