Seated bullet .1 inch too deep

I seated my 308 win bullets .1 inch deeper then the suggested minimum over all length which is 2.8 inches (Richard Lee reloading book). I use start grains when I reload, so would I have a problem with pressure?

The reason I was short was because I left my .45 acp shell holder on my press, which also fits .308 win but is a bit thicker. I should have checked the first round and measured correctly but I just eyed it out, totally learn a lesson.
 
A tenth of an inch is a lot. It would probably be ok, but if you're worried about it (and since you posted on here your probably are) then give yourself the peace of mind and pull em. Its the safest thing to do and all it costs you is time - all the components are reusable.
 
If you use a hammer type puller you may be able to lightly tap them out a bit just enough to resize without having to pull the bullet completely.

That's a good idea! Never thought of that... You could put a short length of wood dowel in the end of the kinetic puller to stop the bullet coming all the way out. Then run it through your seating die again to get the proper OAL.

Works well, and I've done it with a batch of 50 .270 reloads for exactly the same reason. Quick and easy. One moderate whack and re-seat slightly and done is done.
 
IMHO, much depends on the type of bullet. If it's a 125 gr or even a 150 gr, you're probably OK. If you're loading 220 gr, you've got a problem.

It also depends on how much of what type of powder you loaded.

:agree: If you are not near maximum, using compressed loads, nor using a heavy bullet, you should be OK. I'd try 1, and give it a good once over for signs of pressure.
 
Well, we really don't know what OP did and if it is ok or not. First, 2.800" isn't the minimum OAL for .308, it is almost the maximum. My Hornady manual lists 2.810" as max. Second, depending on bullet weight and type, an OAL of 2.700" is fine. Hornady list OAL for most of their 150gr bullets as 2.735", hardly over OP's number.

Since OP seems to be a reloading rookie (or at least making rookie mistakes), I would suggest confirming the OAL numbers and posting the load details, with bullet weight and type, powder used and charge weight. Then we could offer some useful feedback.

OP stated he used the lowest starting load, there should be no problem what-so-ever just shooting the load. The bullet just has a longer jump to the leade and in my experience this decreases pressure not increases, I don't care what the bullet weight is. A 1/4 inch might make a difference MAYBE, but 100 thou will not, besides as "mmatockx" points out this is still within spec depending on whose manual you read.

My lee book says min oal is 2.800 for 150gr jacketed bullets with varget just like his did
