I Wish nosler Mdae A Ballistic Tipped Nosler Partition.

I would really like to see a Nosler
Partition with a Ballistic tip made made for various
Calibers.

It would have "close" to the BC of a ballistic tip, but perform like the normal partiton. It should easily open up at longer distances like the ballistic tip, but still hold together to penetrate deep if hitting at high speeds up close.

There must be a manufacturing limitation to this design, because I am sure I am not the only one who has thought of it.

What do you guys think?

Your right for the most part Dan.

The partition section just cant come apart unless you hit a rock. Lol!

A bonded bullet may not open up as easy at longer ranges.(by comparison), Not that I intend to get silly and shoot ridiculuos ranges.

And personally, I occasionally have trouble getting bonded bullets to shoot real well.

I am curious what people think of this concept thats all really.
 
I think Nosler could find a market for a bonded-core, ballistic tipped, boat-tail partition-style bullet. Regardless of any actual vs imagined advantages, I think they'd sell

It sounds like the Accubond is what your looking for.
 
I think the Accubond is pretty fair for expansion, even when velocities have dropped off a bit.
I shot a Mule Deer a few years ago at a lasered 602 yards with a 270 Winchester.
I was shooting the 140 Accubond, started at 2990 fps with a stiff load of VV N165.
He died within 35 yards after the double-lung shot, and the exit showed evidence of bullet expansion.
His lungs were quite heavily damaged, so That bullet obviously was able to do what it was supposed to, even way out there.
I am a Partition fan. having shot in excess of 100 head of game with them, but there are many very good bullets out there to choose from these days.
When I started hunting, the "premium" bullet choices were pretty slim.
I have often wished the same thing as the OP...a Partition with a Ballistic Tip point & BC.

The higher BC of the BT is due more to the boat-tail rather than the pointy tip.

Building a boat-tailed Partition might be be possible but I am sure it would be tricky to build accurately.

As mentioned the the Accubond does everything on your wish list.

BTW, a Partition will come apart occasionally with the rear core leaving the jacket if the bullet tumbles.

This year my brother shot a calf moose. When we got to the calf it was still alive so I shot it in the head. Both bullets(Nosler Partition 180gr out of 30/06) cane apart just like you said if it tumbles. We both wondered why they would do that. I just thought I had bought a bad batch.
 
This has been done before, gentlemen. There was a small bullet company named Jensen Bullets that made a polycarbonate tipped, bonded core, partition, boattail bullet some 20 years ago. I think they went broke, not sure.
Their bullets were 3X the price of partitions of the day and nearly twice of the A-frame. Don't think they were able to carve enough of a market to survive.

Seriously dude, the Berger and Partition share exactly ZERO similarities. One is a match bullet recently marketed for long range hunting to increase sales, the other is a proven and dependable design dedicated to hunting.

The idea behind a tipped Partition is a good one, but I suspect Accubond sales would suffer and Nosler would be shooting themselves in the foot. Cost might be too much as well. Seems most draw the line at about $1/bullet.
 
I use Hornady Interbond bullets in my 338 RUM and they have performed very well on game animals, I would put them in the same class as Accubonds.

The Berger vlds will kill just about anything out there from up close and far away. Granted they have no similarity to the partition but don't hate on a guy for mentioning a high bc bullet that is excellent for hunting. It seems a high bc bullet for hunting is what the op is looking for so I don't think him mentioning the vld was that far off
 
Federal trophy bonded tip is pretty close what the OP is asking for. Plastic tip, bonded, and has the solid shank to prevent pancaking and stops expansion. The accubond and interbond will keep opening to huge diameters at high speeds which limits penetration. Unfortunately federal does not offer them as a component for reloading. Only factory ammo.

A farmer asked me to shoot 3 crippled sheep so I obliged with 168 gr VLDs (Hunting) out of a 300 WSM. Two of the sheep had no exit hole- liquid sheep inside. The other was a head shot and it near took it off.

I settled on the Partition for deer out of a .270 this year-tried the Interbonds but actually found the spitzer shape of the Partition marginally more accurate out of MY .270 (compared with the boattail polytip Interbond). Prior to deer season, I tried the 130 gr Partition on some groundhogs and no damage at all, passed straight through.

Come deer season, the Partition exited a mature whitetail buck broadside at 160 yds. I will not stray from the Partition for big game but it would be nice to have a higher BC for 500 yd plus shots on varmints.
