I hate this - But I'm a SVT-40 newbie

I have a 1941 Tula, and it's one of my favorite milsurps...Frontier Firearms sells reproduction gas tools for about $20, they work great.
I'd say go for it Riflechair, they are a classic and often overlooked historical rifle.

They are very cool rifles. The Soviets didn't like them that much (too complicated for uneducated peasants). However, the Germans and Finns loved them and used them extensively untill the development of the G41 and G43 rifles.

I have a small collection, covering most of the variants.

Accurate as hell, but very loud. You have to use ear plugs if you're hunting.

I dont see any svt gas tools repro on Frontier Firearms website? Where can I purchase them?

PSMilitaria and West Rifle (had repro and original gas tools).

I was fortunate enought to pick up some original tools when I bought two SVT's. The gun store found them in the bottom of the shipping crate.

Wow, that video makes em look like they're made out of jello. I've not noticed anything like that shooting mine. I'm still working up loads and my next one to the range is:
Powder: Norma 201 - 43.5gr
Primer: Win LR
Bullet: Hornady 165gr SPBT
Case: PRVI Partizan
Vel: 2500fps+

Would a simple bedding of the stock help stiffen it enough to reduce the "jello" effect?

An average SVT-40 with milsurp ammo...what groups could you expect at 100 yards off a rest? 300 yards?

Better or worse then an SKS?

Thanks

Damn now I wants one of these too. I was gonna start either my Enfield or Mauser WWII collection, but now I'm thinking I'm gonna finish my Russian collection first. Already got SKS, Mosin Nagant 91/30, and Tokarev pistol, now gotta add one of these and a nagant revolver, maybe a M44 for hunting season. So many guns so little money.

Who has the best price right now?
I have one with the 6 baffle brake, I'm thinking I might get a 2 baffle next.
Perhaps a Naval stock as well.

My bro in law says he seen em going for less then 200 in a store in Alberta somewhere but I won't believe it till I see it. If I do see it when I goes up there next month I'll be bringing one back to the Maritimes with me that's for sure.

If you don't want to get into cleaning up after firing surplus, Can Ammo (sponsor up top) has non-corrosive russian 7.62X54r for sale for $12.99/20rnd box for sale with free shipping if the order is over $100.00 (8 boxes or more). That comes to 73.4 cents/round and is the cheapest non-corrosive that I have seen. It beats out MFS even.

I though canammo's 54r was mfs?

No, this new stuff is TulAmmo and I hear that it is Russian. It is also 148gr. FMJ as opposed to 185gr. FMJ from MFS. It will probably be a bit easier on the actions of the SVT40 than the higher weight shells and almost exactly what they were meant to have fed through them. I think the surplus ammo out now is 147gr.

I have ordered some as well as some of the same in .30 Carbine ($13.99/50rnds)!!!! I will have to do a write up once I test them out compared to MFS and the current surplus.

just got a hand yesterday on some 880 rounds 1967 Czech price was real good it will allow me to get lots of hours in with my svt and if anything i find sitting on my floor with the right cleaning products listening to some good music kinda therapeutic after a day at the range feels like it kinda sets me up for the week. So surplus is a yes! as long as you dont mind cleaning your rifle after everyday
