Yes you are rightactually, there's a number of "things" that clip onto the bayonet lug, not just the knife- bayonet.right off the top of my head, the front half of the bfa( blank firing appartus) the line throwing device, and the compensator for the m14a1 version; not to mention the "supressor" for the night silent version

I would love to have a light that can be mounted on the lug...
they call that DUCT TAPE- seriously, get yourself an m6 and remove the grip screws- then take a mini-mag or other similar STEEL barreled flashlight and drill some holes with the same spacing as the grip screws-then tap those holes and use some longer screws to secure the light- or just duct tape the handle of the m6 and the flashlight together- imo, it's still a REALLY STUPID idea
Cant stab a zombie with a light......I would love to have a light that can be mounted on the lug...

Silly me again, I have a Bayonet for display, dont even cut a hot dog. Bought it because it was COOL! It now is on display with the M14 for prosperity. If you need one get one! Otherwise, it's a good conversation piece.
but that's HOW IT SHOULD BE- you use a bayonet for thrusting and parrying , like a spear- you DON'T use it for cutting-the ONLY reason to sharpen a bayonet is to leave a clean. sharp edged wound and allow the blade to more easily insert and extract- IT IS NOT A KNIFE
