Some time ago, I set out to build a C8 clone but as most of us have found, finding key pieces (ie barrels) is easier said than done. I'm now at the point of having a rifle that is 'close enough', having sourced nearly all the parts from board members or sponsors. Thanks CGN!:)

Two members particularly worthy of mention, and really the reason I'm posting this:

Craftsman 441: a craftsman indeed, he took my M4 profile barrel and turned it into one that externally specs out to a C8 barrel. Great work done by a great guy. Thank you.

Murdoc aka Arma-Coat: once I had my C8 barrel, I needed it refinished. On a tip from a CGN member, I contacted Murdoc and he quickly got me set up. I can not over state it...this guy does excellent work and at very reasonable rates! My crappy BlackBerry pics do not do this barrel justice. If you need refinishing, Murdoc is the guy to go to. Any blemishes or discolouration in the pics are from my camera...the thing was flawless.

Some pictures (again, apologies for the quality, or lack thereof):

Quite frankly, the rifle is pretty ho hum. I'm really quite jacked about that barrel. :D In the end, the gun is just a bitser, but I've got a bit of Colt in there such as the handguards and 2-position vinyl acetate stock. I'll continue the swaps as parts and funds permit. But for now, I'm a happy camper.

It's funny because at work I try as hard as I can to make my gun not look like that. But, a pretty cool idea and a good job....it reminds me of the shootout scene in Heat!

Thanks for the kind words.:)

Being chAir Force, I only got to tote this stuff around from time to time. And when we did, except for my vacations to Afghanistan with the C7A1 or A2, we were only issued bare bones C7s and C8s. Now that I'm out, I consider this my 'memory lane' gun.

I'd be right there with ya if only my upper would come in.... stupid Bushmaster importer....

Building on a budget, I put a WTB ad in the EE. A quick trade later and I was in business! I will probably do as you did and order one in when the time comes to build a C7 clone...my other 'memory lane' gun. If only the border didn't have the export issues...I'd have a good source only about a 2.5 hour drive south. :(

Look forward to seeing your build Claven2; you have a reputation for doing it right.

ETA: if anyone has tips on how I can make her look more authentic or if I've missed anything, please feel free to chime in. If my wallet, and the law, will permit, I'm open to suggestions.

Very cool-looks just like the one I dragged around A-stan for some time....till I had to trade it in on a brand new Hi-power out of war stocks

Arent they light and airy configured like that?

Well...we need to remember that it's not the Air force's fault that the Army doesn't have what it needs, it's the Army's. Remember the raincoats?

When I was in the only ones issued C8s were the armoured guys; for obvious reasons. The only constant in the CF is change.

And to be honest, most of the time, serving in a Sea King squadron, our rifles were supplied by the Navy. During the time I was in, aircrew did the PWT, and were issued operationally, C7s and the P225, whereas our techs shot the C7A1. Once on ship, we carried a mix of C8s and C7s in the helo, along with the C6 and our P225s.

Maybe I'll bug my daughter later and borrow her camera for some better pics. I never seem to get the lighting right. The receiver is nothing special...just a plain jane Eagle Arms lower from Wolverine. Though I have been thinking about spending the $400 for a repro CF lower from Dlask. Thinking, thinking...

Two different branches, two different budgets and decision makers, etc. What one gets or doesn't get has nothing to do with the other branch.

Besides, when I was at 12e RBC before Christmas, they were trading some C7A2s for C8A3s with 3e R22R and stuff.

Except for the time I spent in Admin Tp (1 year) and Assault Tp (2 years) I had a C8 or a C8-HBFT. Not counting the years that I carried a C1A1 or C1 smg.

Okay thanks j-man, you knew what I was getting at.

Looks really nice. Good job! Being a former Infanteer, I didn't come anywhere near one of these. Standard C7 all the way baby. I just turned a jealous shade of green.

Eruh darn rain coat got into a fight with the poor little clerk at the base QM because she refused to give me one. but of course she got one because, hate for her to get wet on the walk from her car to the entrence of the Qm

still jealous, over how nice that C8 build looks
