Has anyone really noticed how many Threads, Posts, Replies and Advertisements in this and other Forums have a lot of mis-spelled words, poor punctuation, and a terrible command of the English Language?

Now there are some obvious reasons, such as English as a second Language, but with our modern Computer driven age, does anyone use the spell checker?

And since these Forums allow some very long Threads or Comments, is there any reason for compressing several sentences into one long one? Sort of like writing a one sentence Novel.

How about Terminology? A check to make sure that you are calling something by it's correct name?

Anyways, when I happened to see the following advertisement on the EE, the Devil possessed me once more, and the Photoshop program was too handy. :nest:

I wonder if this fits the description of what was wanted?

Hahaha. I saw that ad and wondered as well. Alot of poor spellers on here and most other forums. My personal favourite, which I saw on GB, was boar.....as in BORE. LOL

You have just been busted for being over age 60.;) Spelling, grammar, and penmanship (what's that) still do matter, but we tend to let these things pass for convenience in the age of the computer, the iphone and the ipad.

Towards the end of my service I noticed a marked decline in written and verbal communications skills among my younger, university educated officers and attributed that to the declining standards in our education system. I don't see any signs of improvement among the general population today.

Table manners and etiquette are also on the decline. That doesn't mean that they aren't important. I know a lady who runs a profitable business teaching promising young executives and their wives, who grew up on pizzas and hamburgers, how to eat without using their hands.

X2 and then some.

Unfortunately, some of us still know how to read and we also try to help people.

When someone wants to know about a Manlicker, I send him to a cat-house. If he wants to know about a Mannlicher, I ask if he wants to talk about straight-pulls, conventional bolts or pistols.

Reminds me of a story I heard when I lived out in rural Newfoundland. City guy is out in a small boat and his motor quits. The tide is going out and he doesn't want to be adrift at sea with no supplies. He spies a small boat with three people in it, one guy and two girls and calls over to them, "My motor quit; let me have one of your oars!" And the other fellow calls back, "Neither 'ores here, Buddy; da's me wife and me sister!"

Sometimes it can be good to know proper English.... and use it.

Then you still have a bit of time to get the spelling up to snuff, Jan.

On the other hand, if you don't improve it, you will be able to lie about your age forever!!!!

That has always been a lady's prerogative, anyway.

Good point.

But why is this in the Milsurp section?

Are we the worst, worse than the other sections?

No, we are not worse than any of the other sections. However, the original WTB on the EE was posted in the Milsurps section, so I posted it here for a bit of fun and comments.
