Newbie Going for Registration

So...Just started the process. I am in BC, and am going to use all the information learned here to see how long it takes. Since I plan on purchasing a restricted firearm (handgun), I will post all the dates of each milestone up until the point I actually receive my firearm. Wish me luck!

25 March 2012 - passed CFSC/CFRSC course

02 April 2012 - sent Application for PAL/RPal via registered mail

11 April 2012 - Canada Post confirmed delivery 08H32 local time

27 April 2012 - Online Status: 'Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress.'

02 May 2012 - Called RCMP Toll Free line - 'No issues with application, but they are not ready to do interview yet...Call back Friday'

04 May 2012 - Called RCMP Toll Free line - Did my interview.

10 May 2012 - References interviewed.

25 May 2012 - Called Toll Free #, found out that reference 2 interview was not done, and that there is a 45 day wait at the provincial CFO once the interview is done.

29 May 2012 - 2nd Reference finally called in after some gentle prodding...lol.

30 May 2012 - Checked the website today - "Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)"

04 June 2012 - Received License in the mail today. 54 days after confirmation of receipt of application. Sending application for LTATT tomorrow.

05 June 2012 - Faxed off LTATT application to CFO

11 June 2012 - Called BC CFO office, was told that they have not seen my ATT application yet, but would most likely log it in next week. They are currently clearing a 4 week backlog, and told me not to expect the LTATT to be processed before 3 more weeks. I will try to make a purchase during the last week of this month and see how it goes.

24 June 2012 - Purchased a handgun on the EE - seller to attempt transfer tomorrow...See how this goes.

27 June 2012 - Called the CFC to do my part of the transfer.

03 June 2012 - Called BC CFO office to inquire about my LTATT and pending transfer. My phone call was answered by someone in New Brunswick, who said that they are now answering calls for the BC CFO. They could not tell me anything about my transfer or ATT, only that if I sent in my information, they will process it when they get to it.

13 July 2012 - LTATT and STATT arrived in the mail today.

Passed the restricted with 96% in each. Pretty good for not having gotten the book before the minute of the course.

Now to just wait for my references to be available to fill out my application, and to get the photo that makes me look like a serial killer signed, and then I get to wait even more! I can't wait.

I got 100/98 on Non, 98/96 on Restricted

However, I did have FAC 20 years ago, Passed CORE in 1974, and used to have the old RFP.

My son took the training with Silvercore 5 mos. ago and said it was well done...the instructors were great, and had a great attitude.

I did my training with FST in N. Delta - Instructor Greg Lukan. He knows his stuff, and is very safety oriented. I thought it was a pretty good course.

I think they will hold your application up until they contact all your references so make sure you tell references to expect and to take the calls

References have been trained to call in 3 weeks from now if they have not been contacted.

Dont wait for references to get called go to your reference make the call and tell the CFP references are there too. Its easier and faster for you and the govt. I had my sister and brother in-law as reference so the interview was done in 20 mins for the three of us.

when i challenged my cfsc i got 90 and 90 i had never handled firearms before besides my dads .22 bolt action when i was a kid like 23 years ago. i just challenged my crfsc and got 96 written and 80 on the practical....lol i didn't do anything dangerous i just have never handled handguns before. i didnt have the book for crfsc i figured it was common sense and a bit of terminology. i think if i had gotten a chance to handle the handguns and learn the functions i would have done alot better than 80. where i messed up was not being familiar with the functions of them...so now i am just getting my references lined up and apply for my RPAL supposedly the 28 day waiting period is waived since i already have my PAL and also the fee is waived.. i just got a membership to our local range. can't wait to be able to buy my first handgun and hit the range! sorry if i messed up your thread.

It will likely be summer. My timeline went like this (as posted in "Shorten PAL approval times" thread);

Sep 23/24 2011; Completed PAL/RPAL course
Oct 14; Stamped results back from CFO
Oct 26; Sent complete application in
Oct 31; Received at Miramichi
Nov 15; Credit card billed, Website says "Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress."
Nov 16; Call 800 number, ask if they received all needed information, and if I can do my interview. "Everything is here, but we're not quite ready for interviews yet. Call back early next week"
Nov 22; Called 800 number and did my interview. Co-worker reference also did his interview during same phone call.
Nov 24; Second reference called, did his interview no problem. RCMP site still shows "It is now in progress."
Nov 28; "Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued... Oct 31 to Today: 28 Days.
Dec 12; License received in mail. Total time: ~101 days.

I could have saved time by 1) Getting my references signatures while I waited for the CFO to stamp my papers, and 2) Sending in that application without the stamped papers with a "certified results to follow" sticky-note.

yah its not a big deal. We all had to wait.Use this time to figure out what kinda firearms you want, maybe put on lay away and make payment's...its what i did! Yah i wasn't sure if the Toronto logo was to much or not, but I like it. might get it on a t-shirt lol.

Yes...Just update this thread...I checked the website this morning, and it is now in progress. I have been logging in every day.

The secure site says that it should take 45 days. The date on the receipt as shown on the secure site is the 10th of April, even though Canada Post recorded the signature on 11 of April.

Going to get my references to call in early next week.

Time for the snail race to start!
