Seeing from alot of the wonderful posts up on in the milsurp section. I would like to ask if it would be posible for the amature collectors (ex. myself) to be able to see these in real life and considering the locations of all the members im sure this could work as a very big learning experience. So basicly a Dog and Pony type mini events. Because even at the shows you dont get to see the good things and museams only show so much.

What do you guys think?
Is it posible or im i just a GunNut Case?

It's a good idea and you might want to check with your local gun club and see if they'd sponsor a day to do this .. :)

With GT's support, it's actually one of the reasons we originally started the Milsups Knowledge Libraryhttp://www.milsurps.com/content.php over 5 years ago, here on CGN.

The libraries contain detailed reference research and forums, covering various genres of old milsurp collectibles. The material ranges from general non-copyrighted (or copyrighted with written release) historical documentation, to detailed high resolution photo montages of milsurp firearms and accessories. These photo montages containing over 20,000 detailed pictures covering about 150 different milsurp related entries, spread across 20 different countries, are designed to show what original and "all correct" specimens of milsurp models from various countries should look like. The site is intended to give the average milsurp collector a place to go and compare various wood and metal markings through high resolution close-up digital pictures, as well as other relevant details, in regards to a piece that they may be looking at buying, or validating the correctness of one they've perhaps already purchased.

Check the sticky at the top of this forum for an index of articles pertaining just to Enfields.

Hope that helps ... ;)

Regards,
Doug

Oh and EOHC as their Milsurp shoot in May.

i think thats the biggest tease in the world im on a brigade ex. in gagetown till may 10 GYAH! for once something (give or take) close to home darn. well i saw on the sight mention for a summer shoot so maybe i could sneek in to that 1

Part of the problem with the EOHC shoot is that it's in EO: for someone of my age and health, that's a 2-day drive at least..... and it's just as far to Vancouver.

Locally, we are not all that far apart. I am here, Twosteam is in the next room singing Miss Vetterli's Song, Buffdog is only 20 miles South of here and dropped in yesterday for coffee, bringing along a totally DELICIOUS 1916 Swedish Mauser with an ELM stock, Kjohn is only about 40 miles away and Stencollector only 75 or 80......

But, when we go to a gun show, how do we recognise each other???????

I am sure that most of us would get along wonderfully if only we knew who we were.

I was thinking that perhaps it might be an idea to have some of those name-tags such as the military uses, made up for wear to gun shows. At least, that way, we would know who each other was (or is that "were"?). Then we could set a coffee date or set-up a visit or whatever, just so long as we were satisfied that The Other Guy won't drool on the minty Lugers and such.

What do you think?

It might help expand our community into what the Geek-speakers refer to as IRL.

And that would be worthwhile in itself.

So.........

Ontario has it covered off (at least SW and NE Ont), now it's up to the other provinces. Why not take the initiative rather than wait for others? This is a rhetorical question - we don't need excuses.

I did one a few years back, a lot of work to set it up, let the "chosen few" play with everything, and then locked them down for the general public !!!!

Funny you should mention this. I was talking with a friend of mine that organizes pistol competitions about doing a milsurp pistol display and possibly a non competative milsurp pistol shoot during one of his events. I was also thinking it might be an opportunity to have a few military displays at the same time.

He said it would be a lot of work to organize. I was willing to do the organizing if I could get some help but he also pointed out that the firing range is not all that big so having somewhere to set up is problematic. I wanted to do it at one of his events to have some form of access control to the milsurps as most people would be there for the competitive shoot or would be known to each other. A large open to the public place brings risk of theft that I'm not interested in. So right now its dead in the water.

If any of you can identify the carbine on the left end in Pic 6 (Between the Swede 94 and the PPs 43), you win.....well absolutely nothing...but you are confirmed gunnutz.

I would love to be able to show my treasure to other collectors. Showing to the public would be a nightmare, but would go a long, long way to narrowing the gap between collectors and the "normal" gun owner.

Transporting might be a tough one for some, but could be overcome with help from those more mobile and better equipped.

As smellie says, there are a few of us hardheads around the Brandon, Virden, Regina, Winnipeg area.

I bring people down into my gun room, have them close the door, and look all around. Most of the men say, "Holy #@&^!!". One lady just stood there for a moment or two, then said, "Oh my god!!". That's one I could print.

I think it might also be a consideration to just have one or two other collectors come to another's house and inspect the goodies. My room can only hold a couple of extra people, but I would be okay with that.

Give this some thought. Smellie doesn't live all that far from me, more than 40 miles, maybe about 90, but who's counting. :p

That would be a dream! sadly im a few provinces too far towards the east coast any hard core collector in the quebec, eastern ont. or new brunswick that would have a walking gun closet willing to show off. Im willing to furnish the drool mop and bucket
