Tasco 20-60x60, $135 vs Tasco 20-60x80 for $175. Any others I should look at in this range? Shooting 223 at 200 yards. Rifle wears a 3-9x40 (this needs upgrading too).

Opinions on the extra $40 for 20mm larger lens?
 
The only thing worse than a crap scope is a crap spotting scope. Probably not what you want to hear.

Take the money you were going to spend on a spotting scope AND the money for your scope upgrade and buy a decent rifle scope.

I agree. At first I didn't listen to everyone and bought a crap scope. Endless fiddling and re-adjusting and I had to upgrade. It drove me nuts.

Save your money for a better scope that actually works.

I've been through the tasco fiasco. Heh ;)

Had a chance to peer down a 32x Tasco scope. It wasn't nearly as clear as my Leupold, but I could see the staples holding the paper at 100 yards, and it was easy to line up on exactly what I wanted to at 200 yards.

Damn. More money.
 
Look into the WOTAC, Falcon, or Vortex scopes. They run in the $300-500 range and are nice glass. If you want to save a bit more cash the good old Bushnell 10x Tatical is a good choice.
 
I am really happy with my Redfield revolution 4-12x40
they are made by Leupold and are a great scope for the money , better than the Bushnell elite 3200 3-9x40 or Burris fullfield II 3-9x40 that I own.
 
I would recommend, for an inexpensive setup, to go to CanadianTelescopes.com and buy the Orion Paragon-Plus tripod/headset and then get one of the Maksutov-Cassegrain spotting scopes from either Celestron or Orion. the 90mm is about as good as an 80mm ED, but at half or less-than-half the cost of an actual 80mm ED scope.

that's what I plan on doing...I'm just debating if I want to go with the 90mm or the 102mm. bigger the optic, the more magnification/contrast/resolution you have.

I bought a cheapo Celestron 60mm spotting scope from CDN Tire years ago...piece of crap, though half of it's issue is the unstable mount. LOL

If you're just using it for the range and not going to take it out backing
hunting way yonder, go the the biggest objective.
And as far as spending $$ on a scope, buy what you can afford.
If you decide you wish to change your shooter, the scope can be
removed. Consider the scope a lifetime investment.
Treat yourself.
 
I bought a Tasco 20-60x60, had problems with it after about 6 months Bushnell replaced it, I use it at the range. earlier post 30 cal 200M is true, I thought it was good value.
