Canadian Rangers new Rifle

Why start a new thread? So people can say the same things over again in different ways?

Definitely, now that the Long Gun Registry is toast, the next step would be to derestrict the AR-platform. Why? To aid national defence. That way you can then arm the latest AR-rifle.

1 - It's made by Colt. The Gov't wants the rifle to be made by Colt Canada, so this makes it easy.

2 - It's 308. This also makes it easy.

All the gov't needs to do, and equiping the Rangers with this would be reason to do it, would be de-restrict the AR-platform, and also get rid of the mag limit restriction.

It's a Win-Win-Win.

Epic FAIL FAIL FAIL

Too many parts and pieces, AR's don't like the cold, won't go bang after riding on your skidoo for 6Hr's at -40c.... I would feel safer packing my Tula SKS into the northern winter then an AR.

This rifle will never leave my possession for that reason

2 week ban for the next guy that starts a "Rangers New Rifle" thread.

2 months for the next guy that suggests an AR.

Life for the next guy that suggests the FN.

Who ever said they can only get what they need. Perhaps we should get them with something they want.

Besides, the spin-off benefits of equiping them with an AR would be great.

PS: High-cap is only determined by the mag size. If that really boils your blood, give them 5 round mags. 5 less than the LE they have now.

Like the many gun owners, most Rangers aren't really knowledgeable about firearms - it's a tool, nothing more. They're not looking for something "cool" or with a huge support requirement just something they can effectively hunt with - at least all the ones I've talked to.
The fact that we're limited to 5 rounds is what really boils my blood - I'd be happy to be allowed to hunt varmints again with my AR and a "normal" cap magazine. I'm just not convinced that an AR-pattern rifle would best suit the Rangers. If it could be made to happen AND they wanted it AND it wouldn't cause legal headaches??? Well then that would be ideal, wouldn't it???

My swiss arms 223 has never failed even after a 6 hr snowmobile ride and covered with ice and snow ... pull the charging handle back and bang-O she fired ... every time!!! You can pull the thing apart with your hands and no tools ... but hey we're talking CDN rangers ... they'll probably get a bunch of shizznat for their next rifle.

But how does the butt hold up to driving tent pegs into frozen ground? :D

I'm thinking the GAU-8 Avenger, wrapped in an A-10 Thunderbolt!

at least it would give them a fighting chance against herds of marauding lemmings! :D
