Hello,

This may have already been posted/answered somewhere on the site but I have run a few searches and wasn't able to find the answer to my question.

I have had my PAL for over 10 years now and have recently completed the restricted safety course to upgrade my license to a RPAL. I was wondering if the 28 day waiting period and contacting of references still applies if you are only adding privileges to your license. I already own a firearm (shotgun) and have gone through this before, just seems unnecessary to do it again.

It doesn't really matter either way, i'm just eager to get into pistol target practice.

I'd be interested in hearing if anybody has any info on what kind of process I should expect.

Thanks.

I now have my RPAL. Like you, I had a PAL, took the restricted course, in Ontariio - waited 30 days to receive my test results, completed firearms licence application, references and I were contacted 2/3 weeks later by Firearms Center, I received my RPAL approx. 40 days later.

I did the exact same thing back in Nov. A FAC holder then a PAL holder. One night had the idea to get restricted. I sent mine away over the Christmas holidays. Sent away Nov 30th (snail mail), issued Jan 4th (Xmas and New Years in there).

Keep on the CFC and your CFO, call weekly, and login on the RCMP web site to follow your status.

And your references will be contacted. To speed things up once you do your interveiw, have your references phone in to do theres.

Just because I didn't' see it clearly said; No, you do not repeat the 28 day waiting period. That wait is for your PAL. Adding the restricted endorsement does not require an additional 28 days wait. You also do not send in any fee's for the endorsement - just the application.
