iSnipe v2.0 - Shameless Plug

Ultimate Monkey:

I played with adjusting the bc values to match my trajectory at distances past 1000-1900.

It seems to have worked very well. I have had allot of sucess with it over the years.

Mine went to update, and I guess it didn't. Now my iSnipe doesn't work.

One other thing. In most of the places here where there's a range my iphone doesn't have service. So when the program was actually working I would make sure to let it put in the current weather variables just before I was out of cell phone coverage.

Love the app, got the upgrade even!
But pardon my ignorance, what do the 8 ballistic coef. settings do and or mean?

I really suggest picking up Bryan Litz's Book on ballistics for long range shooting. He explains it very very well.

Part of the calculation to determine a bullet's BC is the form factor. That is how the bullet compares to a set bullet shape. A more accurate base bullet shape to the type you are shooting produces a more accurate calculated BC for that bullet.

For us that shoot boat tail VLDs and target bullets tend to like the G7 BC where available. Bryan's book has a great list of BCs in the more commonly used target bullets.

Give this a read. It is partially covered in there too:

I have two suggestions that I hope can be incorporated into future updates.

First:

Move the altitude section out of the daily variables section. I shoot in areas with no cell reception so I tend to use the GPS location update function for humidity, and pressure just before I lose reception, unfortunately it also changes the altitude.

Last time I checked, altitude is not a daily variable. It is permanent. It should be in the saveable range info up there with lat/long, angle to target, etc. In that section then you could have a load from GPS function for the phone, that does not require cell reception and then you won't have the errors popping up like you do it you try to get weather outside of cell reception.

Second: For angle to target, how about allowing the person to choose either degrees using the phone as instructed, or typing in the cosine number for those with ACIs on their rifles. Some people either don't have iphone cases that sit flat, or don't trust the phones accuracy with the angle.
