SKS Collection

And how exackly do you figure that? When bill C-68 became law, I lost about $ 20,000.00 in the value of my guns!!!!

Scott

Yeah that must have been heartbreaking, and that's why it's only "pretty safe". I would think SKSs are a good choice with the LGR gone now. You can just bury them under a river if you must.

I wonder if there is a thread about guns as an investment somewhere in here. That would be a good thread.

I was considering buying an SKS (or maybe a crate of identical ones! :) )... I was just wondering how easy and/or finicky are they to clean/maintain? It wouldn't be my first gun, but it would be my first gun that isn't a super-simple direct blowback.

Very easy to clean, even if you're shooting corrosive surplus.

It's said that you can take them apart and put them together without tools, and you certainly can for some if not most, but I cannot for the life of me get my trigger assembly back into the rifle without a rubber mallet and a punch. That said, with those tools, it takes me about 10 seconds to do. The lever to remove my gas tube is also extremely stiff, but I can do it with my hands if I wear gloves. Remember, this is my particular rifle (Chinese Military Surplus) and not at all indicative of all SKS rifles. I've had no stoppages/failures of any kind, and it's always a blast to shoot.

Seriously, get one! (or ten) They're easy to clean, extremely reliable and cheap as dirt.

I'd be content with a Soviet, Chinese, and Yugo SKS in the collection...

And maybe some beater to turn Tapco tacticool.

Agreed on the Soviet, Chinese and Yugo...but a beater for a tapco tacticool..hells no.. I couldn't do that to one of these fine rifles..if i get a "beater" it will be going into a beautiful Timbersmith Stock http://timbersmithusa.com/products/sks/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=4

but to each there own :)
