Ladder testing, bipod or front rest?

I have a new barrel on my rifle, and I am going to do a ladder test to find a good load for the rifle, my question is when I am testing should I be using the rifle with the bipod, or off of a front rest? The rifle is going to be shot off a bipod In precision compition form, most if not all of the time after I find a good load for it, will the front rest make any difference in the load development process?

I would think that front rest would be more "repeatable" and make test more accurate. Always good to reduce any variables if one can, not saying bipods aren't a good rest but a front rest and bag should be more stable.

Unless you can preload the bipod exactly the same for each round, the front rest is going to be the better route to go.

Well, he might as well start practicing with it now then if that is what he is going to use in a comp....... I'll x3 what Grinch said, use what your going to use, pretty easy.

Why would you not use the front rest? It should be more stable, you are testing the load not your skill on preloading the bipod. That skill will be tested later. The most repeatable foundation should be the answer.

If you have either one of these front Bi-pods I find I can shoot as well. if I use my Hart pedastile

If you are using a quality skipod, by all means.

If you are using a harris, hope you are very good at that skill. I would then opt for a good pedestal rest.

Unless you are shooting a very high recoiling rifle, the difference in load tuning between the pedestal and quality skipod should approach zero IF your shooting form is consistent.
