Hi there folks, a small blur of the lines here with a black rifle hunting question: can the 10 round mag be used for hunting, or does the 5 round maximum still apply? It would be kick ass to throw 10 rounds in for a coyote invasion and keep it legal

Depends on your provincial game regs, look there. Hunting has nothing to do with federal law, all the rules are specific to each province and located in the Fish & Wildlife Act (aside from some rules regarding waterfowl).

To make it easy:

"Under the Criminal Code of Canada you cannot possess
any clip/magazine that holds more than five shots for a
semi-automatic centre fire non-restricted firearm unless that
clip/magazine has been specifically exempted, pursuant to the
Firearms Regulations."

Straight out of the regs.

Good thing the LAR-15 magazine is a
clip/magazine that holds more than five shots for a semi-automatic centre-fire restricted firearm,

and not a
clip/magazine that holds more than five shots for a semi-automatic centre-fire non-restricted firearm.

No one is going to argue that what you posted isn't out of the regs, but having actually read and understood them is another matter.

A magazine for a semi-auto centre-fire non-restricted (which cannot be a pistol since all pistols are restricted), must be pinned to 5 if it does not have an exemption. The regs make no mention of limits on magazines for restricted firearms, which may be up to 10 rounds if that restricted is a pistol. The regs also make no mention of using magazines for restricted firearms in a non-restricted firearm while hunting.

In this case the regs do state that we are prohibited from having magazines for semi-automatic centre-fire non-restricteds that hold more than 5 rounds while hunting, just the same as while not hunting. Good thing LAR-15 magazines don't meet that criteria.

So can you use a full cap AR-15 mag in the Remington 7615 because it is not semi-auto?? I am confused. By full cap I mean the 30 one of course. But of course you are a criminal if you put it into a semi-auto.

By the fact it fits in to a restricted and non-restricted SEMI-AUTO rifles, does that in effect ban that mag from full cap?? If it happens to fit in to a non SEMI-AUTO you should be good to go right, unless the law bans that specific mag?

Your Enfield holds more then 5 for example.

I am not asking about LAR mags, but the Remington 7615 as it is not semi-auto and it takes AR-15 mags.

the 10rd 223 pistol mags that happend to work in a non restricted semi auto rifle are good to go in NB. I contacted the DNR head office legal department guy. I forwarded the RCMP file on the mags,..and the link to the XCR I was using that was non restricted. His answer.....you found a loophole in the law sir...just make sure you have your paperwork with you.

The 7615 is a differnt beast. Because the rifle was specifically designed to take AR rifle mags, the RCMP state that any mag for a 7615 is still of the design for a AR-15 and therfore the mag design for a 7615 is still considered semi-auto centre fire rifle magazine. Magazine limits/laws are based on what the magazine was designed for.

Which we all know is BS they just don't want us having 30 rounders.
