Need to have a ziess conquest mounted on sako 85 finnlight using optilock bases and rings. I dont any gunsmiths in my area and was wondering if anyone has a helpful link to get me started OR should i completely avoid this and drive my gun out to have it professionally done. (havent yet mounted a scope myself).

any advice would be appreciated.

thanks

If you're nervous about doing it yourself without someone showing you how (understandable) then post an ad on here saying "Help wanted installing scope in Smithers- Free Beer". Someone will leap out of the woodwork to help you.

I should have also added that I had never mounted a scope until a couple weeks ago and it very easy. It sounds scary because you have all this money into components and scared to screw it up but go for it. Watching some Youtube videos was very helpful for me.

Just do it :)

make sure you use the right screwdriver/bits so you don't 'bubba up' the screws, slip an scratch stuff up. and don't go silly when you torque them down. tight+...but not stupid vein popping tight. tighten each base screw a little bit at a time (and wiggle the bases as you tighten)...all will work out fine.

your combination should be easy and true when done.

Do some internet reading / research, then take it one step at a time like rsako says. You should be able to get it all together "shootably" snug & without the Loctite at first. Don't force things and confidence in your work will build as you go. I'd stay off the Loctite till after a successful range trip confirms you're sweet, then take everything apart and reassemble using acetone and "blue" Loctite on base and ring screws once you know you got er. Just don't be in a rush and you should be ok. If stuff doesn't seem to be fitting together nicely then definitely a trip to an experienced gun smith is called for.
