Yes, the muzzle brakes can be exported (don't know about the Vortex flash hider). You can get Ellwood Epps or Wolverine (and others) to order for you. They will do the required US export paperwork to get this stuff into Canada.

Or, you can try doing it yourself using the Brownells ordering tutorial here:

I will be trying this myself this weekend. I am ordering 2 of the Smith muzzle brake as well as some other components.

Good luck!

I purchased a SMITH muzzle brake last week in the EE section under "modern military" section for just over $100. Search and you will find.

Flash hiders of any kind are not exportable on their own as a flash hider is an implement of war.
There does seem to be an exception when it's imported on a complete rifle.

Muzzle brakes/compensators, though also used on some military arms, are primarily used on sporting rifles and as such are NOT considered an implement of war.
It's pretty much that simple.
Smith enterprise vortex flash hiders are NOT exportable to civillian end users

Based on my experiences ordering from Brownells, even when the correct paperwork has been filed, the state department has reclassified muzzle brakes as significant military equipment (SME). This means that except for military and law enforcement orders no more muzzle brakes or flash hiders will be allowed to be exported from the U.S..

I find this hard to believe. Almost no military rifle in the world comes with a muzzle brake except for the .50 cals.

.... Not a good idea LOL
One or ywo, possibly three canadian manufacturers have been legally persued by Ron Smith of smith enterprises for doing exactly what you suggest.
However, we've been waiting a great many years now for a canadian manufacturer to make us a canadian designed, standard, castle nut retained m14 brake or alternate flash hider design.
Not to offend any canadian manufacturers, but if the chinese can do it .... We surely can. Chinese spec gas pistons and gas plugs would be nice too ;)

Well Thanks for all the Info guys. I have ordered another muzzle brake from Brownells that is Under $100. I will see today what happens if just Flash surpressors and products over $100 are subject to the Law. I do want to make sure that it is known that Brownells costomer service staff were amazing throughout the process.

Hey Gang

I just wanted to follow up with this post. As it stands the State Department has deemed All Muzzle breaks as (SME) Significant Military Equipment this means this is something that cannot be exported outside the country I talked to one of the international reps at brownells this morning after my last order failed. :bangHead:
