Best bang for you buck .223 rifle

I loves me a lidda Dirt McGirt. Straight up speaks da truth, no shillin' no illin'.

To the OP, if it does not have to be non-restricted an AR is the way to go. If you need a NR.....I got nothin'. To me they are all to expensive for what you get and the really good ones are stupid expensive IMO.

Kel tec su-16f is cheap and has been getting good reviews....

3rd page and no one has asked a price range! So... Whats your price range lol. What you are looking for differs greatly depending on the amount you want to spend. Also, what distances are we talking for target shooting? Just a plinker or a tac driver?

I keep thinking of cheap ARs vs the SU16. I would rather have an AR personally but then I don't need/want a NR.

I can't knock the SU16. I don't know enough about it. I would probably go there over a Mini 14 if just for the fact is uses AR mags. It does look tacticool to.

XCRs can be had for anywhere between $2300-$2500.

Tavor is around $2700-$2800.

H&K SL8 is $2300-$2500.

Swiss Arms are $3400-$3800.

Just went through a few sponsors at the top, and these were the prices I found.

What is the price you are looking at dropping? Does that include glass? Extra mags? Sling?

benelli MR-1 is very accurate, is not restricted and a good gun all around. Buying restricted .223's really limits the amount of use you can get out of the gun, and in my opinion cuts the value in half as they are worthless outside a very very very limited physical space, and you can only shoot at paper. I do own some just because, but they see little to no use.

I am totally the opposite. I nearly always have a restricted firearm with me at the range. My club range is 10 min from my house and Borden is 30 min. My geographic situation is pretty damn good for that. About 90-95% of my shooting now is done at a range, rather than in the bush/farm/crown land.

I can totally understand folks who don't have much range access or can't/won't join a club. It's not for everybody.

The best solution to part of the OPs question is to eliminate the restricted designation to all firearms, but we aren't there YET :p

If only they would eliminate the restricted designation, but I don't think it will happen for a very long time or even at all.

Just keep watching on the web. Sometimes Swiss Arms can be found on sale at $2999. Still a little more than $2500 but that would be the best bang for the bug, I think.
For Restricted, AR is the way to go.

I'd definitely go AR if you have access to a good range. You can spend as little as 500 dollars for a Norinco AR 15 or spend 1000-1500 on a higher quality/higher precision AR. I'd set aside 1000 for a good optic too.

I have a Colt Sporter HBAR with match components and a SpectreDR optic and I couldn't be happier, but it did however cost quite a bit, even though I got quite a deal. You get what you you pay for more or less.

I'd definitely go 20"+ heavy chrome lined barrel if you want tight groups out of an AR, which puts Norinco out of the question. If you have the know-how, try your own build. I find it quite enjoyable personally :p

Woah, your optic must have cost more than the gun itself. Sounds like a really awesome setup. Looking back on it now, was it really worth it to go with such a high end optic? Also do you have any tips on how to choose the perfect AR? I know you mentioned the barrel but is there any certain manufacturers or features to look for? And clearly from all the questions I have I do not have the know-how to even attempt my own build.

Again, it really depends what you want to do with your rifle, plinking and shooting paper, you can get a Noronco or spend slightly more for a North American made AR and still have plenty for a good optic with a 2500$ budget.... Not to mention all the extra accessories you can get for it. If you're just shooting at the range, then what does it matter? If you're hunting or shooting somewhere else, then yea of course you want a NR rifle.... I've only had experience with a Swiss Arms, and they are really nice, I'd buy one if I wasn't saving for an m16 and an m14 build this year... You can usually find me at the EOHC weekends so you can PM me if you wanted to meet up

here is what i would look at if i was looking for my first black rifle and had about $2500.00 to spend...

SFRC has a presale on Daniel Defense AR15's for $1499.00 or Questar has the LMT AR15's for about $1200-1700.00 range. after taxes, your looking at about $500.00 left for an optic and your set.... if your going range shooting, then the AR15 is the way to go. both forementioned rifles are top tier and you will not be disappointed.

just my opinion of course...

Ya i've read up on the dd ar-15 and it looks really nice, accurate and durable. Never heard of LMT maybe I'll look them up to.

i can tell you from experience that both are excellent rifles, but the DD is a really great deal.. for AR15's, I own/owned H&K, Noveske, LMT, DD, Colt, Armalite, Sabre Defence,Imperial Defence, and Norinco... and I would not hesitate to purchase the DD or LMT for any reason.

Wow, where do you get access to all these rifles? And how was the norinco and what is the next cheapest ar?
