Why no S&W M&P 15-22 love?

I get that the S&W tactical rimfire rifle is restricted, but for a fella like me, where the application is to practise with an AR platform, but without the cost of 5.56, I see its use.
Sure, the best way of practising with your AR is a 22 AR upper, but seeing as the 15-22 is just as expensive, and both end up being restricted, why not?

Sure, they have bugs (ie: trigger creep), but why not?

Simple, the 10 round max law for the stock magazines. Yes you can get the drum but everyone has issues with it. I'm looking at buying a cmmg upper so you can train with the same lower. Also the m&p price has really dropped and I know of a few ranges/stores that will not carry them since the changes in the magazine law. But it did cost over $650 so price was a factor too.

Why no love? Simple~they're restricted. Were they NOT restricted, I'd probably get one. .22lr is like the easy/simple/used-to-be in inexpensive side of my shooting interests. The "shoot all day" for $20, rifle I can walk around on the farm with, low-tech plinker, etc. The moment a .22lr becomes a "range only" gun, my interest disappears. Same goes for .22lr pistols. I'd be prepared to drop some serious $ on a nice .22lr pistol tomorrow if I knew I could knock over pop cans with it at the farm, carry it in the woods, etc.

Rant over. Bottom line for me~restricted .22lr=no sale.

Well I DO love my M&P 15-22. The fact that it is restricted, does not bother me at all. Since I already have an RPAL and I usually shoot my 1911 and 15-22 during the same trip to the range. If I ever want to hunt or wander the woods with a .22, I have several other rifles that I can use. However the change to magazine capacity (max 10 rnds) really has taken the fun away for me. So much so that I recently bought a DAR 10-22 so that I can plink away with no magazine capacity restrictions. I hope that someone comes up with a reliable, aftermarket hi-cap mag for the 15-22 soon.

The uppers are made of higher quality components and made of aluminum vs. polymer. They also generally have better barrels. Further, your lower may have expensive aftermarket parts on it such as a match trigger and magpul stock.

If you want the feel and aren't that concerned about accuracy, the conversion kits are an even cheaper way to go, and get to practice on the acutual gun in the exact configuration you will shoot centerfire.

Exactly the fact it's restricted does me in. I bought a SR-22 and I love it but yeah, I'm sure if the S&W wasn't restricted I would have bought it instead seeing by the time I buy mounts and iron sights for the Ruger, you've paid for the S&W... if not less for the S&W. I like the fact the S&W comes ready to go with rails and sights out of the box. The fact it more closely resembles an AR15 in terms of looks and controls is a bonus!

m&p 15-22 at wholesale is now $540. So why not get a gun with a proper charging handle. I'm sorry but a sr-22 is still a 10/22, just a real expensive one.

It's still restricted. I wanted a 15-22 big time, but I'm sorry, I can take my SR-22 into the woods and have a HELL of a lot more fun than I would at the range with a 15-22 (a range that I have to drive an hour and a half to).

Bottom line for me, 15-22 is nice, I would buy a couple if they were non-res, but since they are not, they are next to useless for me. If I am going restricted, I will buy myself an actual AR. For the woods, the SR-22 is hot s**t in a champagne glass. As it stands the 15-22 is more like cold diarrhea in a dixie cup. Until the RCMP takes their heads out of their asses, there are a great many 22's I will likely pass on. Buying a 15-22 just for the sake of having it is not reasonable for me at this point in time.

10/22 action is also a good place for a beginner to start modding/getting comfortable repairing.

Yeah I admit AR-15 controls are a bonus. I mean an auto locking and releasing bolt would be nice! But fact is I just bought mine for target shooting at the range. I'm not training for the army! I guess it doesn't really matter if the handle I pull back to start shooting is on the side, the back or... the bottom? People say the SR-22 looks like an AR-15 but... it really doesn't. To me it looks like it's own gun. What I mean by that is from 25 yards away I could see an SR-22 and there would be no mistaking it. It's a Ruger! I got no problem with that.

The 10/22 action is proven to be reliable, easy to mod, easy to repair and easy to find replacement and aftermarket parts. One thing I thought about the S&W is that in 10 years from now you might not be able to find any repair or replacement parts. Am I right in thinking that although the gun looks like an AR from the outside it doesn't actually use any AR parts inside?

But once again it's restricted. I don't even have my restricted PAL and if I did I would have to get a permit to transport just to go to the range and shoot? Plus I couldn't just take it out to my buddies farm and shoot it outside whenever I want. What's the point of having a 22LR if you can't take it outside and plink?

This. And since it's going to be restricted regardless... An AR conversion also allows you to run 30-round .22LR magazines (something you can't do with the M&P15-22).

Correct. Well, I would imagine the cheaper cost of ammunition and higher magazine capacity for training are part of the appeal. A Ruger isn't an AR15 - it can just be dressed up cosmetically to look like one. But a SW M&P15-22 isn't really an AR15, either (it's just classified as one).

Inspite of it being Restricted (Damn RCMP lab idiots)
Inspite of the mags being Capped (Stupid RCMP lab idiots)

I STILL LOVE MY M&P!

I know this is a little off topic... I saw the 25rd M&P mags on a store shelf this week. They were not pinned and they were labeled 25rd
