Looking to purchase a 30 30 in the fall and was wondering what brand anyone recommends

Marlin - Have hey fixed their quality control problems?
Rossi Rio Grande - Can you find these in Canada

Any advice. Used Marlins are selling for more than $500 on the EE?

Thanks,

I picked up a Mossberg a couple seasons ago. The action is good, the gun shoots well, but the iron sights are absolute garbage. If you can find peeps or a scope, you're good to go.

there is a model 94 pre 64 1959 in 32 special on EE right now that looks to be in near mint condition!!
675.00 i would try to get it for a little less if i could but its a nice rifle!

The new Japan produced Winchesters are better made that even the pre 64's -- only my opinion but they are much smoother with better blue and wood -- they are however expensive -- I have not shot one but I'm hearing good things about accuracy.

I don't know if it's what you want to hear but those who suggest a pre-64 Winchester are right on the money. Find one in nice condition and you won't regret it. They are high quality, dependable rifles.

no such thing

A good 30-30 has not been made!Surely you can think of something better to spend your money on.Go get drunk, the hangover will last longer than the thrill of a 30-30.I speak from experience,as I have three of them.I too was a slow learner.

we all make mistakes, learn from others.

That was your mistake, not the picking up,but the taking home.

You think they aren't good, but yet you own three........

Offer one up and then get drunk.....;)

:p

To the original poster, I would look at something other than a 30-30 or a 303.

Whats wrong with people today?.

Theres way better rifles out there for about the same cash... with more punch and better distance... yet they are hung up on these old relics.. why..??. Just curious:confused:

Maybe something to do with, their grandpa used one.Their grandpa used to drive a model A.Revert back to a spear, would be better!

My grand pappy used to ride a horse and plow fields with them.. come to thinkin, he also had the 30-30 winchester rifle.
Never heard any stories he shot anything with it... besides the odd cow russler while watching gun smoke or similar cowboy movie... maybe thats it, the charm of the 30-30 on those mindless old western movies?..

The OP has a 16 trader rating and has been a member for a few years...I doubt this is his first gun. If it was his one and only, I'd agree there is a better choice than a 30.30 but it sounds to me like the guy is just looking for a 30.30 to add to the safe. Nothing wrong with that.

Ageed. A pre 64 in good shape is a great gun, but as mentioned above,
the Miruku built models are beauties. Pricey though.
The 30-30 has taken more big game than most other calibers and still
does the job just fine for folks that actually hunt their game, rather than
set up like Sid Sniper with the latest wiz-bang, high power rig and shoot
way out yonder.
Nothin' wrong with spear hunting either under ideal circumstances.

Ever jump out of an apple tree onto a deer and gillotine the bugger
with a Wilkinson Sword bayonet from a No.1 Mk 3?
I did when I was 16. Mom near s**te herself when I drugged it home
and told her how I got it.
