Yesterday I received my CZ Shadow from CRAFM. They had the best price that I could find anywhere, and they were easy to deal with. Shipping was fast, and I would use them again.
Upon unpacking it: I found that this was covered in factory oil/goup. Not much chance of it rusting like that. I took it apart and gave her a good cleaning with some gunzilla CLP and put it back together.
Most of my pistol shooting so far has been with glocks. Obviously, this gun is heavier and it feels very solid. I have big hands and the grips are a good size for me. The trigger is stock, and I found the double action pull to be long and smooth. Single action is nice, light and crisp. The sights are good and easy to pick up. The fibre insert is nice and bright, but I suppose it is just a matter of time before it falls out and needs to be replaced.
Off to the range.
At first I tried to use reloads that I use for my G34 - 125g zeros loaded to 1.135 COAL. Bad idea. I guess the chamber is short in the shadow, and the first round that I tried to put into battery jammed the gun up and I had to take it apart to get it out. I should have known better. All chambers are not created equal, and I should have chamber checked the bullets in the barrel of the shadow before trying to shoot them. That's a mistake I will never make again.
Once I switched to factory ammo, I would load three mags and empty them on one target before switching.
I found that the gun shot well. I have attached a pic of my first 30 shots. This was at 7 meters. It's not rapid fire but its not slow shooting either. I'm not the greatest shot in the world, I know.
I am sure after a couple of weeks and a few hundred more rounds that things will get tighter.
At 45' 30 rounds would be within a fist sized group with a flyer here or there. My fault - I always know when I shoot one before I even look at the paper.
At 75', the group was much more open. They were on paper, but they were more the size of a dinner plate. Ah well - practice makes perfect!
The factory ammo that I shot was a mix of WWB, winchester lawman and american eagle. All 147 grain FMJ. I shot a total of 200 through the gun and I had one fail to feed out of that. Not sure why but not the end of the world.
Once I took the gun apart again, and after another cleaning I did some chamber checking for reloads. 1.10" will drop right in and right out, but going much above that starts to cause problems. I am going to load a few up at 1.10" and see how they go.
Overall I am happy with this gun. She has a good weight and it very pointable. The weight keeps the muzzle flip down. I look forward to breaking the gun in more.
