My 7.62x39 Lee Enfield

Have you posted the process you've taken to rechamber the Enfield? I've got and old sporter No.4 with a buggered chamber, I'd like to try this conversion, looks like fun!!

I did, but I have trouble finding things on the search here. If you find the thread, it does have pictures. I can go over the process briefly here.

I have a lathe, without one, it can't be done at home. To get the barrel off the action, I followed the advice of a fellow CGNer by using a parting tool on the barrel next to the action. This is good advice as you have to turn down that portion anyway.

A couple of whacks with a rubber mallet, and the barrel twisted off by hand. (that doesn't always work. I got lucky)

Then I turned down the barrel the apropriate distance and threaded the barrel. There's lots of measuring involved to make sure the barrel is indexed properly. The amount I cut off was was under an inch. I had to take so much off in order to ream out the damaged portion.

I bought the reamer from Brownells, (before I started the project) reamed it out close to where it needed to be. After I installed the barrel, I finished the reaming job when I could make sure of the head space.

I silver soldered a ring on the bolt face. I didn't have to do anything with the ejector. I did machine a grove on the bolt head so a spring loaded pin on the action flips out the spent casings. When I do another one, I'll use a pin in the bolt face.

A magazine for a JW 103 was formed to fit inside the LE mag. I wedged it in place with a carved plastic material from Lee Valley Tools. I don't remember the name of the stuff, it's UM... something something something. If you look in their catalog you can see it. (I use the same stuff for making butt plates too)

It all took me a couple of weeks working on it a couple of hours a day.

It is a fun shooter, as you can see.

Thanks for getting that video up d a d. I got it to work for me through the link, but I need to learn how to post videos.

UHMW is the stuff.

On my list of projects too. Now I know what to do with that decent two groove someone put a bolt through the chamber of.

What is the make and year of rifle you're using? I see you have the early cocking piece on there.

I can't be sure of the year, I think it's a 1944. Not sure where it was built. I'll have to research more. Coincidently it's a two groove No4 Mk1. It is the early cocking piece, but the bolt isn't original to the rifle.
