After last year's hiatus, we'll be running our first 3 gun match of the year on June 9th, at the Peace Country Fish and Game Association range, northwest of Peace River, AB.

Match will start at 10am sharp. All participants must be registered by 9:30am.

Shooters will require:
- eye and ear protection
- centerfire pistol and a holster secure enough to retain the pistol during movement (no brakes/comps/red dot sights)
- centerfire rifle of at least .223/7.62x39 power. If enough full-bore (ie .308/.30-06/8mm) shooters are in attendance, a separate Heavy class will be included.
- shotgun of at least 20 ga.
- gear to carry spare ammo/magazines
- slings for longs guns will not be necessary

Shooters may use bolt guns or revolvers but you will be at considerable disadvantage to those using semi-auto pistols and rifles. Likewise, break open single or double shotguns are allowed, but not really suitable. Be prepared to carry at least 30 rounds of pistol/rifle ammo and 20 shotgun shells on the appropriate stages.

The round count should not exceed 75 pistol/100 rifle/50 birdshot/5 slug.

Lunch will be included in the match fee, as always.

*Match fee has been set at $30, including lunch.*

Loaner guns and gear can be arranged with enough prior notice.

Match will go rain or shine so be prepared.

Also, be prepared to shoot your rifle to 300m and your shotgun to 50m with slugs.

This post will be updated with specific info as it becomes available. Please post any questions you have in this thread or PM me.

We'll see you there!

Would make the trip but have to be in a bud's wedding party that day :(

tigrr, most guys (not all) will be running either
-AR15 with either a red dot or a 1-4 power scope or both
-CZ858 or variant with same optics as above
-might see the odd SKS, or the odd non-rest black gun like Swiss Arms, Robarms, etc.

-shotguns will be mostly pumps, you might see the rare semi
-Mossbergs (590A1 is what I run), Rem 870's, Fabarms, Benelli's
-mainly 'tactical' versions of the above. The consensus is that round count in the tube trumps all else other than sheer skill, as reloading is the slowest part of shooting.

Steve would you tell the brand and caliber of rifle and shotgun you use?
And maybe the optics, you have on them. tks

Redhouse hit most of the general points, tigrr.

I'll either be running one of my .223 AR's (NEA or Armalite), or my XCR in 7.62x39. The AR's have red dot sights and the XCR has a 1.5-5 scope. Shotgun is an 870 with mag extension and side-saddle. Glock 17 for pistol.

If you want to hit the range and try some stuff out or get a feel for the stages, let me know. I hope to be out there a couple days this week.

As I said in the original post, if you need to borrow gear to make the event work for you, just let me or Greg know.

Any idea of an average round count for the day? Guys in the office would like to know.

As a guess round count should not exceed 75 pistol/75 rifle/50 birdshot/5 slug.

That's a maximum, bring-this-and-you'll-have-plenty number. Actual round count will most certainly be lower, but I can't say by how much.

Also, match fee has been set at $30, including lunch.

Any pre-req's for shooters? IE black badge etc, or just a RPAL?

No. Just the ability to be safe and follow the 4 Rules.

As all shooters are under direct supervision PAL/RPAL is not required, either. We should have couple juniors shooting the event this year.

We've revised the expected round count to include a bunch more bird shot.

Bring at least 50 rounds of bird shot and 5 slugs for your shotgun.

I have a buddy or two I might be able to bring along, but they have never been around an event like this so they whould have to be brought up to speed on things. Would you be comfortable with a guy with limited range/trigger time attending? I would be able to bring all the hardward they would need.

Mark

There is nothing overly complicated about 3 gun shooting. It is just not bench or prone shooting. Shoot as fast as you safely are able to. Everyone has to start somewhere.

We have had many first time shooters.

Mark,
You can help your buddy(s) out a lot by at least having them use a holster before hand. Take them to the range and show them what you know so well.

If you can also get them familiar with the rifle and shotgun they'll be using that will make a big difference, too.

Folks,
Greg and I set the stages today. This match will be fairly rifle-heavy with shots out to 300m.

To ensure you have enough to complete the minimum and have a margin for any misses, please bring 75 pistol/100 rifle/50 birdshot/5 slug.
