We usually wear them over top of shirts or T's (or both). I would order a size or 2 larger than you would wear as a heavy shirt if you plan on wearing it in the BC logger conventional way.

They are truly a great garment for outdoor wear and particularly for hunting.
Warm, quiet and already in a nice monotone camo colour. They are also quite versatile. One of my pals still gives me the gears about using my stanny as a piece of rope to tie the hind leg of a moose to a bush while I gutted the critter.

We often refer to them as Bella Coola business suits. Loggers through out BC have kept this garment in style for decades. A favourite quote from an old hook tender about his stanfields --"When I wear my Bela Coola business suit, no matter how wet and cold I am, I am always warm and dry!"

are you in Bella Coola?

I lived there for awhile, man do I miss it.

as for the Stanfields, I think a lot of guys out on the west coast use them because they keep you warm even when they get wet.

I miss a lot of things about Bella Coola too. Great fishing, great community and there was a pretty active rod and gun club and a great range. I lived there in the early '80's and was introduced to rain gear, stanfields shirts and caulked boots. I quickly realized that my wool pants and stanfields shirt (bought from Kopas Store) were the best hunting clothes going. Camo was not all that popular at the time and I don't think Gore tex had been invented.

For me, wool still works as a hunting garment. Love the Stanfields shirt. Quiet, warm, dry.

I've always found that wool keeps you warmer if it is snug. I guess it depends whether you plan to use it as an inner layer or an outer layer. I think it is intended to be used as an inner layer, but it seems many adorn it as a top layer, so upsizing would make sense for them.

Personally, the garment makes the most sense as a second inner layer on top of a "wicking", ultra-thin base layer (not made of cotton!). In this case, I would want it to fit relatively close to my body. It'll show my beer gut when I remove other layers, but it'll keep me warm. At least the old one I had worked this way. It was snug enough that the sleeves were basically only 3/4 length, but it worked extremely well.

I want one too. Where did you find them in Ont?

I'm 5'9" and 170 lbs. I like a medium. It's a little snug coming out of the laundry (fits nicely under suspenders ;)) over a long sleeve thermal or t-shirt but loosens up as you wear it. When I was 20-25 lbs heavier, a large fit me the same. Hope that helps some.

Stanfields Factory Outlet in Truro,NS has them (1st quality) for $32.99.
A co-worker was out east last week so I had him bring one back to Ont.

Nice mid weight sweater.
Thanks for the heads up. I've never seen them in stores round here.

No joke, I can spot people from BC by their clothing, hair and just the way they walk. A woman just moved in across the street. Crazy BC hair. Looked at the plates on her car, yep BC.

Can you guys spot an Albertan? What do we look like, a**holes??

This is how we usually ID Albertans:

"Why is this f*cktard up ahead of us driving so effing slooow???"

...approach closer.....

"Ahhh, I see why...........Red Plate!"

:p:D

I can agree with the above Alberta driver stereotype. Coming back from one hunting trip we were all having a good laugh pointing out all the red plates on the idiots in front of us. After a while it wasn't funny anymore....

i wore one out one night in AB, a girl asked me "isn't that itchy?"

never realized they had a website, i have been looking for ages to replace my red wool socks, since red wool is the warmest. all i can ever find now is green, blue, and grey.
