HI all. I did as M14 Doc said and checked the numbers. This bolt is less than a year old and is a 2011 production. So heads up. If you own a 2011 M305 do your self a favor and have a look at the bolt. This may or may not be a production issue.

pictures just so people can see the damage,

I saw that on the other post, but didn't see a cause. Was the hammer rough or cut wrong, or was the bolt ground weirdly, or what?

Holy crap!! That wore right through??

I very much doubt it "wore right through", more likely it was incorrectly machined at the factory and somehow slipped through "Quality Control".

If it were a wear issue, I believe the area would be shiny and not dull (still parkerized?) as it appears in the pictures.

Hey Big Mouth........Ex squaddy mate ..I know how to look after a weapon, and I wouldnt be greasing the bloody thing anyway.Maybe my cycling 5 rouds thru it did all that damage . I'll be sure toi put lots of grease in my new one :)

Actually grease is the best thing you can use on these , Get some white lithium grease or cheap crappy tire stuff . Check out the stickies for where to apply it.
Just make sure to keep the gas system dry.

Even without grease, the bolt shouldn't look like that. This gun doesn't need lots of grease to work. it is a factory issue...machining or soft metal.

looks like a combination of the hole being drilled off-center (not sure what the machinists term for this is) and a low spot on the outside. perhaps some idiot hit the bolt body with a grinder.
you can clearly see that that was like that from the factory, since the park on the area is totally intact - so people need to calm down and stop worrying that it 'wore through'

why not send the gun/bolt back to where you bought it and have them replace it?

The bottom of you bolt shouldn't be greased anyways. Unless you want it transfered to your rounds and then into the chamber.
This issue is not "user inflicted"
My first thought when saw the pics on my phone was a defective safety bridge cutting into the bolt. Bigger pictures showed it could have came that way.
Regardless, good thing we have this place to discuss and help each other out :D
Another happy M14 owner, treated like a valued customer, rifle exchanged and on to enjoying it.
