A couple guide guns

 

[Road King]

Picked up the rare 22" octagon barrel Marlin model 1893 this weekend. The rifle is in .32 H.P.S caliber.

I also had these two Model 1893 Marlins follow me home today, both are in .38-55 and are in very nice shape

Only on the Special Light Weight Rifles were the fore stocks 1" shorter then standard.

32 H.P.S caliber? I thought I'd heard of all the lever gun cals ever made, but unless this is a weird designation for something like the 32 WCF or 32 Spl, it's a new one to me. Please enlighten me.

Marlin called their .32Cal the 32 H.P.S. (High Power Smokeless) it is the same cartridge as the Winchester .32 Win.Spl.

Thanks for the info. Not a lot of info around on Marlins. I was always into old Winchesters but from a design standpoint the 1893 is more robust and a much simpler design than the Winchester 1894.

The wood looks like real walnut so it can't be a Rossi, must be a new Winchester.

yes it is a winchester, and i haven't held a rossi so i can't really say. but since you said the wood looks like real walnut i'm guessing the rossi doesn't have that, so at least a portion of that extra $500 i do think is worth it lol.

I bought a new Win 92 in 44 a while back and I can tell you they are a fine rifle and worth every penny if this type of rifle turns you on. It's not for the "one gun fits all" club but it fills a niche in my collection. The Rossi is IN MY OPINION a poorly made piece of junk compared to the new 92s from Miroku/Winchester.

That's a bold statement, I own several levers including one Rossi and other then the crap wood stock I find them to be very well built rifles. I have not yet fired or even cycled the new Winchester yet but they do look promising.

I shopped around before purchasing my own 1892, and The Marlins seemed to have the poorest fit and finish, and the Winchesters seemed to have the best.
