Hi, anyone here using the RA Centre as their pistol range? I have been trying to find a good range for a while now and living in Kanata, I have given up on EOHC and i still find Smith Fall too much out of the way.

Any help would be appreciated.

The RA range is certainly convenient, particularly in the winter.

There are a range of disciplines available, on different days of the week, from bulls-eye, to IPSC, to various Olympic styles. The regimentation differs according to disciple.

It's a little different to, say, EOHC, that has lots of room, and few shooters at any one time. On a Monday night, which is essentially free-form recreational bulls-eye, there may be as many as 40 to 60 shooters amusing themselves for two or three hours, in a relatively small space. In order to keep things moving, and to keep it safe, the relays are run pretty tightly. You wouldn't want it any other way.

The club also has a vast pistol collection, so you can try out all types, at any time. Cost is the same as EOHC, or thereabouts.

I also hear good things about the Grenville outdoor range, as a replacement for EOHC, but have yet to visit.

The 40-60 shooter make me wonder if it's the right place for me.

Thanks for the info

I am in the same predicament. I checked out Stittsville Pistol Club after several years at EOHC and I don't think it's much better, and it's crowded. Also 2x the price. They charge you 70$ to take their ATT course on top of your range fees for 450$ and you have to come and shoot several times with an RO to pass the course, bit of a drag. Turned me off. I am looking into Smith Falls next.

Curious, what made you give up on EOHC?

Stittsville is too expensive and restrictive for me. I shot there for years but it changed. The RA is too restrictive period. I guess it's for safety but I am lucky to be close to Smiths Falls. It might be worth the drive. I can show you around as a guest.

I'm a member of both RA Centre and EOHC.

The RA is certainly conveniently located (less than 10 minutes from my apartment, indoors is handy for cold winter days, can shoot until 10PM) compared to other ranges, but can definitely be busy. Saturday mornings are usually pretty quiet, but Monday nights can be really ridiculously busy (though it tapers out at the end of the night, especially since the hours were extended in January -- the last hour you can usually shoot back to back relays). On the upside, because it's so busy you get to meet a lot of fellow shooters, which I find is not the case at EOHC. The RA has a VERY friendly community.

The RA handgun section is also now allowing .22 rifles during handgun nights, which is awesome for people who own tacticool .22s that the stuck up people in rifle section don't like you to shoot on rifle nights. ;)

If you want a range that's centrally located where you can shoot on a scheduled basis with a bunch of helpful and familiar faces... The RA is great. If you don't own your own guns, the RA also has lots of club guns for you to use. But I think if you're a serious shooter, you also need a supplemental range where you can go out for an afternoon and shoot non-stop -- I use both of my range memberships at RA and EOHC extensively, but for different purposes. It's pretty much impossible for me to leave work, go home to pick up my restricteds, and make it out to EOHC in time to get a decent amount of shooting in (not to mention the cost of gas to get there!) on a work night... The RA gives me that option. But if I'm loading up for a whole afternoon worth of shooting on the weekend... I head to EOHC.

It takes me over an hour to get there. And when they were talking about increasing the price last year, I gave up. Nice place and all but just too far.

Grenville Fish and Game Club.

Low cost membership, with full access.

That being said, I might look into NCRRA at Connaught, for longer range shooting.

Did I read it right on their website?

70$ a year

How are the installation and is it really busy?

At that price, it offset the price of gas for sure.

Grenville fish and game is very inexpensive and a family membership is only $10 more than a single person if that interests you. the facilities are top notch as well. They have trap & skeet, rifle 25,50,100 yrd , handgun out doors and are working on completing indoor hand gun and archery range. You get the combo to use the range anytime between 9am and sun down , and many times will have the range all to yourself. For the $$ I think it's a no brainer.

I'm currently a member of the RA centre and really like it. friendly, knowledgable guys, always willing to give advice and pointers. good selection of range pistols etc. Not a huge fan of the relays but i guess thats what happens at busy clubs.

That being said i just moved to the east end and will probably be joining EOHC as well. but having been to both I can say that they are VERY different and i think serve different tastes.

I used to shoot at the RA and now shoot at the EOHC, the cultures are completely opposite, RA Center tends to be really busy, and is a great hangout place to chat with plenty of gun owners, while the EOHC, is really laid back and the availability is really nice...

I found the only down side to the EOHC is that if you're looking for advice or to chat with fellow gun owners, sometimes you're the only person there... so take it as you will...

Other than that, EOHC is probably the best local range.... haven't heard much of Stittsville
