First post-LGR pruchase, 10/22

So i stopped by a local shop today, just to browse and ended up picking up 2 10/22's, the price was too good to pass up. One is going to my brother once he gets his PAL. It was a different experience, no phonecalls, no computer. I give them the money, they give me the guns, i sign the logbook and walk out :D

I've waited too long to get myself a 10/22..

Now, before i google and do a search, what are the must-do upgrades for a basic 10/22??? :D

My trigger on my new 10/22 is actually okay, no creep, a little heavy, but not outrageous. I don't plan to get a new VQ hammer. I'd just get some ammo and get accustomed to it. Then determine what you need from there.
 
There are no must-do upgrades. My latest 10/22 runs great on Blazer and BC steel lips mags. A buddy and I just put 900 rds thru it rapid fire tonight with a total of 2 stovepipes, no other stoppages. Its in an NEA-22 chassis but the action is all stock w/about 1500 rds thru it. As posted above, shoot it and decide what you want to do. I like to flip the stock rear sight from the round aperture to the larger square one for a better sight picture. Just be careful with the tiny screws, the heads break off easy. Use just enough torque to hold the sight leaf in there.

Seen your thread and called Lebarons and they xtended the sale till today and even had what I wanted in stock.Ordered the wood stock one and was quite easy with no drama. My cost to me in N.B. is $258.14. Can't find the rifle around here for under $300.00! Thanks again you gun maniacs!:ar15:
 
The bolt release mod is a good start. It allows the bolt to release easier once locked back.

Fill mag, empty mag, fill mag, empty mag.... repeat until too dark to shoot/too tired/cops called/run out of ammo.

The trigger on mine is pretty good. I picked up extra 10 round mags and am going to try and find some good 25/30 rounders. Solidly made is a necessity.
 
For now all im going to do is pick up a few 25 rounders, and maybe a scope.
I was very surprised to find out that the ruger 25 round mags are prohibited... so right now its a toss up between butler creek and TI mags.

Does the BC loader work with all mags or just the BC mags??

As for the scope it will come a little later, i'd prefer to use the irons until im comfortable with them and then add the scope. Is the factory scope mount ok to use or should i get a different one?

Im a complete newbie to scopes.. time to do some research and hit up the optics sections and rimfirecentral. For now im stuck to a 50 yard range.. What magnification scope should i get?? what height rings should i use???

Should i get a bipod (and how do i install it?) or just use bags??


So many questions, i should just sell it on EE for $350 and avoid the troubles of a new gun :p
 
I don't know that you need a lot, or any magnification on a 10/22 for that matter. I have used a fixed scope on mine for years, but I don't do any long range shooting. Personally, I hate buying scopes, which is why I only have 1, the rest are red dots. I have had bad luck buying used (bushnel) and have bought what I thought were good scopes at gun shows only to find out they were best left where I found them. Granted, I just took the sellers word each time, I did NO research before I bought.

Same with a pod, if you are going to be bench shooting, then I wouldn't worry about it, but if you do, you can get units that mount via the sling mount on the front. If you end up going tacticool, you can get a picatinny mount. Keep in mind, unless you use the pod on a regular basis, it's just something more in the way and adds more weight to the front of the gun.

As for mounting the scope, no need to get fancy, you likely won't need any risers or a different mount.
