What's up all

I am in the process of breaking down the right first AR-15 for myself and any help would be fantastic! the final 4 I have narrowed down are:

Daniel Defence M4 V3
Smith&Wesson M&P15 MOE
Core 15 M4 Tac (gas)
LMT-CQB16-X

If anyone can tell me the more fitting all around good quality that would be fantastic

My very first choice would have been CMMG 5.56 NATO or BCM M4 but can't find any here in Canada...

I plan on using a heavier grain bullet (63-69) and looking for close shooting as well as 200 yrd

unless you plan on reloading heavier grain bullets are a hell of a lot more expensive than the 55grain american eagle bulk stuff you can pick up easily in edmonton.

I do plan on reloading, but I am also not afraid to spend a little money to find the right combo first...naw mean? I have also found numerous online sites that I can get bulk heavier grain ammo for decent prices.

for the rifle itself I am looking at $1500-2000...not including the furniture I already have.

I own a Core15 and I can say the fit and finish is STELLAR. This is a very TIGHT gun.

I put an NEA upper on the Core lower and was shocked at the amount of play (which I know is just slightly oversized holes on the upper). With its own upper on, there is virtually none perceptable.

Why no interest in a Canadian Company right in your own province ? High quality, & custom engraving available.

Alberta Tactical Rifle Supply. Their gen-4 lowers with ambi bolt-release are out now too.

A bit spendy (stripped & matched upper/lower = $950), but from what I've seen they are second to none in the fit-n-finish dept...

I think I'm gonna drop the NEA I had planned to build & save-up more $ for an ATRS.

Don't do it!

I just bought my first AR and now I'm f**ked, addicted big time. These things are a serious money pit but so much fun.

Well Boomer...

The reason I dodged ATRS is because their prices are a bit ridiculous seeing that they use majority parts from other manufacturers. Like the barrel...thats the heart of the gun and they use DD and DPMS, but want to charge twice as much or more! I agree their uppers and lowers look great but to double the spending and have a product that will perform the same as any other... not my kinda game. I am not afraid of spending money, but not a fan of wasting it either.

And to answer Max Owner and Odsixer... I plan on buying many... don't even have one yet and i'm already addicted haha. Already have all the furniture and sling!

I want to stay in the ballpark of 2G's no more... Even a BCM or CMMG are no more than 2 bills and i'm told they are pretty stellar quality and tough!

The DD looks good.

Other considerations:

If you can find one of the LMT mrp export versions they are an excellent rifle and within your budget. Also the Stag 2T shouldn't be overlooked. The ones we get are done up properly with the staking, F front sight and H buffers. They are an excellent AR. You won't go wrong with any of these three rifles.

Thanks epoxy

The LMT do look good as well, assuming the barrel twist is 1:7. on questars page they don't specify when describing the package but on the barrel sold separately they mark them as 1:7. And I was looking at the stag rifles but no one has them in stock. and I believe they were a 1:9 twist. so now I have LMT on the list hahah

Thanks for the replies!

I threw a poll up to help decide. I think the DD is taking lead but I'll let this poll aid my decision. I was planning on waiting until the Edmonton Hunt Fest to purchase in the case I found one there...but if nothing attracts my interest I'll order online! hopefully shipping isn't too nasty.

I'd have to double check but I think my LMT mrp is a 1:7. While my Stag is a 1:9 but... I bought mine a while ago and now they do sell Syag with 1:7 twist.

North East Arms sells Stag. Shipping isn't that bad. They're a site sponsor so the banner is at the top of this page.

Wolverine has DD I believe.

Apparently there are some parts of the S&W MP15 that are slightly out of spec, or built a little differently than most ARs, so after market parts may not fit as expected

WHAO!

that's pretty important, can anyone else back this up? that would suck seeing that I have all new magpul furniture and plan on getting a BCM charging handle!

Well Boomer...

I do kinda agree with you. Their prices are high, but I have yet to see a customer of Ricks complain that they "wasted money" on their build with ATRS.

And although they offer DPMS factory barrels, they also offer match barrels from Lilja & Rock Creek.

The later of which I'll be going with, a match barrel in .300 AAC blackout... :D

Good luck with whatever you choose, I'm sure it'll be a fine gun.

I have shoot and inspected a ATR AR15 and they are worth it. Very very nice rifles....just saying as the rifle I shot was quite impressive and I have had the opertunity to fondle some high end AR's. Having said that my first AR will most likely be a Daniel Defense as they are half the cost, mil. spec. and my first AR. Starting simple is IMO better ooooor maybe high end right away....idunno. Any way the ATR rifle I tried out was a beauty.
