Benelli M4, To optic or not to optic, that is the question

I just bought a new Benelli M4. Very excited. I'm wondering if I should throw an optic on it? I put on an eotech and found that the sight was too high. The stock required a cheek raiser. If I do go for an optic, I'm thinking it would be a Burris Fastfire. Opinions and advice welcome.
 
Ive had the same issues with my new M4. I tried and liked the fit of the bushnell trs 1x25 red dot. I decided to ditch it in favor of night sights.....all I need to do is find them lol
 
T1/H1 Micro in a low ADM or Larue mount is perfect. Allows you to actually use the middle stock position, since you can BARELY use the irons at that LOP.

To be honest - If I could find the LPA inserts like the Fabarm Martial Pro Forces, I'd ditch the aimpoint all together. It's a much cleaner system with irons. I have the Meprolight nightsights, but I'd trade them for a set of FO's in a SECOND.

I also tried the Fab Defence front rail... ditched it after I realized a VFG/AFG sucks on the forend, and there are better ways to mount a flashlight if you absolutely NEED one. Rail systems are a waste of time on this shotgun for me... YMMV..
 
agree on the rail systems. I was planning on getting the side armour but this gun is already tacticool out of the box. I'll look into those sights you mentioned.

Still considering that burris fast fire 2.
 
When I first got mine I got a Doctor Optic MRD for it. Awesome little sight but I always worried about bumping it. Then I got a fullsize Aimpoint ML3, nice sight. I ended up going for a T1 Micro which was an awesome fit for it (with an ADM QR mount), however that little optic is on my USC/UMP conversion now.

The T1/H1 Micro's (or even a Strikefire) would be a nice sight for the M4, they sit lower and seem to just work nicely on the gun. However I am actually thinking of getting another ML3 or M3 for my M4s90, or an M4s for my UMP conversion and putting the Micro back on my Benelli M4.

The fastfire 2 is a really nice little MRD. If you're going to be going out into the wilderness or any competition shooting I would recommend going with one of those little "winged" protector mounts you can get, just to prevent any bumps or dings to the hood.

H1/T1 micro aimpoint would be my first choice, burris fast fire, docter optic as a second imho..

No worries. That is the only reason I didn't keep my Doctor Optic, at the time getting the winged protectors was very difficult. Now I think you can even get a little "shim" version that goes between the mount and the sight, although the actual mount versions are I think the best.

Brownells has one for 99 bucks that has the mount and the protective wings:

118-000-016WB (SKU code for it)

Or maybe talk to Stoeger Canada (Red Agencies) and see if they can get just the protective wing thingy that goes between (Beretta USA has one listed on their site). The Beretta USA stock code is: 410330 but I don't know if that will mean anything to Stoeger Canada.

Aimpoint T1 sits on Mine and I love it. If we could get the LArue sight protectors up here I would consider looking into a Dr optic.

As it is I am thinking of trying a RMR on there as they seem to be standing up well on pistols.
 
I found that the lowest mount for me was the Aimpoint T1/H1 mounted on an ARMS #31. It doesn't co-witness, but it does come off the rail quick if you need to go to irons. When using the middle position on the collapsible stock, it is perfect. With my FastFire II, it was just a little to high for me to get a good cheek weld.

Agree...I am running a T1 on a Larue LT661 Low Mount and its good for me. I agree with other users as I can't use the irons on the middle LOP position
