Ok since the topic of modified mags came up, here's a question.
Anyone ever try to make a 5/20 or 5/10 round mag out of the 5/30 by cutting the mag and spring?
Since we're not allowed full capacity ones smaller mags would be better IMO. And 5 round mags cost 50+ dollars.

I tried. I failed. Miserably. H:S:

I modified one of my 5/30 mags into a 5/10 for shooting on a bench. Folding the cut end to retain the stock base plate it tricky. The aluminum is hardened and tends to fracture when bent. I tried to aneal the metal prior to bending by heating with a torch and quenching in water. I was able to get a serviceable bend but the metal started to fracture as I approached 90 degrees... It's not an easy task...

Instead of cooling the aluminum by quenching it in water, I worked it while it was hot. I took a propane torch to the new cut lips to heat them up and would bend them a little using a vise. If I remember correctly I put the heat to it 3-4 times just to bend it 90 degrees. In doing so you can ensure malleability of the aluminum and avoid cracking.
