New Rem 700 SPS long range!!!

What do you want it for (hunting, target, long range)? If hunting, what game?

8.75 lbs target rifle in .300 WinMag. How many rounds do you figure you can shoot in a day? For a hunting rifle, no problems. For a target rifle it will beat the sh1t out of you.

I will change the stock for an heavier one, the Choate tactical stock is about 4 lbs, with a scope, rings and base the overall weight of the rifle will be not far from 12lbs, not bad I think and I can add some more weight.

The barrel is a little on the light side for long range target work. Do you plan to compete with this rifle?

No competition (I'm not really a good shooter) just for fun, mainly long range shooting (gongs, metal pates, etc..). According to Remington web page the barrel is a 26" heavy contour. I always wanted a 300 win mag since 1984!!!

I think he means the factory stock. But I am just guessing.

I meant the factory one. However, the Choate is just marginally better. Oh, and for the record, I do own one and have for well over 10 years. I don't use it any more. I used it on my 7mm Rem. Mag Sendero for a while and ended up putting the HS Precision stock back on it.

One of the easiest ways to become a better shooter is lots of practice. A .300 Win Mag will do just the opposite. Don't get me wrong, I love my .300 WM for moose hunting and it has nailed down everything I have ever shot with it. But on the other hand I shoot about 1000-1200 rounds a year of .308 and a few hundred .223 in competition and practice.

Get yourself a smaller caliber and learn to shoot it well. You can bang gongs at long range a day long with a .223. Just for sh1ts and giggles check out the price of ammo and see how 200 rounds of ammo cost. .300 WM is fun to shoot but it aint cheap to shoot.
