Savage F class/F/FTRs vs Remington 700 series

For 'out of the box' I would likely recommend a Savage - I see several at F-Class matches and they perform well. For 'upgrade down the road' I still think the 700 has the edge but the upgradability of the Savage's has really closed the gap so the choice isn't so obvious anymore.

Does one of them have a stock you really like? That's about it. Merits to both. I'd take Savage over Remington because you don't have to true the action to get that match barrel to perform. That's an assumption on my part from info I've read on the never ending argument of Savage or Remington. One thing I can say is if you have a problem with a Savage the company will go to the wall to make it right for you.
Awesome points. I have truely No preference what so ever so in a way, it makes the decision harder. I am close to buying two in one shot: a Remington 700 in Caliber 223 Remington and a Savage in in caliber 308 Winchester. Agree? Its a big investment but totally worth it in the long run I believe.

If is was me, I would do it the other way around. Savage in .223 and Remington in .308. Get the Savage with a 1:7 twist that can shoot the heavy bullets. Remington doesn't offer a fast twist .223 to do this.
Again just my opinion..... If you want a shooter that you can dress up tacticool buy a Remington for the availability of after market parts. If you don't care about tacticool and just want a shooter, buy a Savage (the laminate stocks are pretty enough).

I prefer Remington 700 over the savages but there both excellent it's mostly personal preference and I tend to shoot the 700's better yet I have friends that shoot there savages better. I think it all comes down to what you like and are used to

And the groups they shoot. (first time out, just starting load testing) With a $200 scope I had sitting around.
Theres at least two shots missing from those groups.
There more than 2 shots missing in each group. I competitions I shoot in are 10 or 15 shot matches

My next precision gun will be a savage 12 ftr in .223. I've never seen a 700 perform out of the box like some of the savages I've seen.
