NEA CZ58 Ambi Bolt Carrier

Looks to me like it would be easy to drill and tap a big hole on the left side of the carrier and threading a hex head bolt. If the bolt head is rounded off a bit, it would be similar to the cocking lever on the other side. Someone must have done this already. right?

Looks easy, but it's not.

The carrier is very hard and therefore difficult to drill and tap. A standard hex bolt will last about 500 rounds before failing and shearing at the carrier surface.

I drilled/tapped mine 4 years ago and it hasn't broke off yet. Made up a charging handle with a hole clear through and just screwed it in the left side with some permanite loctite.

I'm planning on doing just that. We have all of June before CQB3 in July.

I have the one that just has handle on left side, like it is supposed to be! Why most guns don't come like this is beyond me. After you run it like this it is hard to go back to "other" style.

The charging bolt is on the right side as well as the safety to prevent the weapon from getting pulled out of battery due to clothing, mag pouches etc: as well as from crawling around on your belly. Same deal as the safety, it is on the right side so that it cannot be moved from gear and environment.

It is a safer more efficiant way to operate the rifle, I have a 58 and have not messed with the charging handle and safety. Jus thave done way more traing working the charging handle with an underhand "rack".

I purchase the NEA bolt release. It required a little modding to fit but it functions very well. IMO it is the way to go for this platform. I look forward to killing a few Zombies with it at EESA this summer.

Should have addressed this . Handle on left side works perfect for those of us not jumping out of helicopters, conducting ambushes or highspeed-low drag training. For hunting, range shooting, gopher shooting, gravel pit training and as a carry gun for "every day" stuff its the cat's meow.:)

I use a AFG on all my tac semis (yeah i drink the cool-aid) so don't 'think' ill have that problem but you never know. How's the fit and finish, would it be of par or better then the CSA bolt carrier that's in it and are they tabbed?
