Question about twist rate 22-250

1:12 is probably too slow for that weight of bullet. But maybe if your barrel twist rate is a little faster then 1:12 (twist rates are not exact) and you can push the bullet really fast, and depending on the bullet design, the results might be satisfactory for you. I've been meaning to try some 69g Sierra match kings in my 1:12 22-250 Ackley Improved just to see what the results are. I'll let you know.
 
JBM says no-way, no-how (at 3400fps and 12" twist, stability factor for Hornady 68 BTHP is 0.75, which isn't even remotely close to the 1.0 that indicates stability). That's not to say for sure that it won't work -- maybe someone who has tried it can post his results

I tried firing Hornady 68s from a Sako .22-250 (I assumed the twist was 14" but didn't measure it). I was shooting at a target 125 yards away, that was two feet wide and four feet high. I fired about ten shots, and could see by the bullets hitting the backstop that my group was about ten feet in diameter. I would have thought that I might have had one or two hits on my target, but I didn't get even one single hit!
 
1-12 twist and 63 gr bullets

I once had a Sako Forester with a 1-12 twist that keyholed the Sierra 63 Semi-spitzers, perfect side profile holes at 50 yards. Same gun shot bug holes at 100 yds with 55gr.
YMMV, only trying a heavier bullet in your rifle will tell.
