Old Noginator has the short turkey barrel back on still got shells from last year. Got a couple new calls made and one will be coming with me along with trusty old Delilah my pot that was the first one I used glass in and my Black & Tan box call. Wingbone yelper from a gobbler with 1 1/4 spurs and about 4lbs of Nikon dslr.
Seen some good birds and a Fox a couple times and heck I even killed a coyote in my field last week(fox is safe as there aren't many around these days and she has a den)
Here's some pots I've done up in the last while that got me started warming up lol.

I don't pop in here too often any more and see some new names. You guys have a safe and fruitful hunt. Looking forward to hearing some stories and seeing some pictures

they look amazing. could you explain the basics of making one of these if you make them? I've got some of the same woods and would consider making a couple of calls for fun.

Are the woods stabilized at alll? I ask since spalted maple seems like it may not be a very good tone wood. Are the tops only decorative? I wonder about the sound that burl wood would make.

Thanks for the well wishes. First season and high hopes!

That's a lot of questions bill lol. That would wear out my typing finger.
Decorative yes but also functional. Spalted not punky maple sounds as good as anything. Spalt is a fungus that grows on the sugar in the wood that's why it is most prevalent in Maple. Beech spalts well too.
Sound is vibration. Vibration of a wooden peg on the slate is amplified by the body of the pot much like a violin amplifies the sound from the strings. A violin uses a sound peg between the top and the back of the body. The pot call does this too. I prefer slate as the sound board and glass for its resonance as the material that connects to the base of the pot. Slate for it's mellow purrs and it's near maintenance free.
The wood I use is always dry and I seal it with poly or tung oil. Even the figurative burl stays put on every call I've made so I don't go to the vacuum stabilising thing just yet.

Thanks for takin the time. I've got a bit of Amboyna and Afzelia burl blocks kickin around that I should use up. Maybe I'll try a pot call. Thanks again.

Checked out your call slide show and you've got some great pieces. The birdseye is especially high quality figure.

At first glance I thought they were "Salt and Pepper" shakers. Shows that I have never hunted Turkeys lol, but I do love salt and pepper on them when they are cooked.

Wow, I'm not a turkey hunter myself but I can appreciate the hard work and cfraftsmanship you put in these call. The box elder one is stunning!! Good job.

Would you care to take a chunk out of my wallet in exchange for one of those?.... PM me.... I would love a custom pot call... I already have a custom box call, it meeds a brother ;)
