Hey guys, I was looking at picking up a crate of surplus 7.62x51 to blast off in my poly M14, and I was just wondering if anybody has had any issues? I'm used to shooting corrosive (x39) and cleaning with boiling water and some elbow grease. Aside from the barrel and gas system is there anything else I should be paying attention to? I usually give the whole rifle a bath, but pay most attention to the gas system and bbl.

I don't see where I compared the M14 to the SKS? The word "SKS" wasn't even mentioned until that post?

Thanks for the input from the other members.

Because the only gun in the universe that shoots x39 is the SKS.

[sarcasm]Wait, can my M14 fire 7.62x39?[/sarcasm]

Lol I really thought this thread was a simple, legitimate question. f:P: Thanks matty86suk and CerealBlast for the cleaning advice, thank you everyone else for the face palms.

I haven't tried it myself but the chromed barrels and sloppy chambers suggest they are meant to shoot sloppy corrosive ammo.

Quick question to ask in this derailed thread...

I've dealt with corrosive, so I know all about cleaning it. My question is, how long is it okay to go (during summer) to go without cleaning the salts out? For an M305 of course.

Ive always cleaned day-of. But this summer I will be on trail for a few days at a time, so a full clean isn't in the cards.

you can probably stretch it to every couple of days depending on how many rounds you fire each day. You could always fire a few non-corrosive rounds at the end of every session as well.

So I'm just curious, how many of you clean your M305's upside down, or completely tear them down before cleaning? I've only cleaned my gun once in 3 years, but I give it a light oiling every 6-12 months. I have to clean my gun soon, and I'm debating whether I should take down the gas assembly so the wipeout doesn't climb up through the hole into the piston chamber.
