Has anyone tried reloading 7.62x25 surplus "brass"? I am not even sure it is brass, it kind of looks like a steel, but it is not magnetic.

Surplus ammunition for my Tokarev is still fairly inexpensive, but sometimes it is hard to find.

I have seen a Berdan deprimer tool advertised at Cabelas I think, not sure about dies though.

Anyone?

I have .223 brass. How would I make it from that?

It's faster and easier to just order Starline brass from Henry N.

-just remember to drill out the necks with an N size drill bit.
your sized/drilled neck material should be about .010 thick
or the rounds may jam in your chamber

-make dummy rounds first too- no powder or primer
and see how they chamber from YOUR magazines in YOUR pistol

I bought Lee dies from Tradeex Canada. De capping seems impossible with the tool from Lee though. They also have brass for sale but if its the same as what i get from the milsurp ammo its gonna be tough to work with as i can't full length resize or decap the primers. was actually thinkin about selling the die set.

The die Lee die set is of good quality.
The new brass, if it's Starline, is also of good quality. It also uses Boxer primers, so components are easy to find.
Leave the surplus brass on the ground and use new product.

i load for my tokarev and found that i had to use a bullet with a diameter of .311 instead of .308 or .309 other the bullets would tumble and accuracy poor, but slug your own bore first

i have to agree the best and cheapest way to do it is just order a bunch of starline brass, its better then sellier and bellot brass hands down

further more the lee dies for the tokarev are good quality, but you should also buy the factory crimp die for this round. this is because the tiny neck and shoulders on this round are extremly easy to crush if you seat and crimp in the same function

I have been thinking about reloading for my TT33 also. I have been shooting a lot of Czech surplus but I would like to try out some reloads also. I noticed Hornady manufactures 86 grain .308 diameter projectiles. I will be getting some Starline Brass. Winchester, Prvi Partizan and S&B all have factory loads available that are Boxer primed, so that is an option too. I am still pretty new to reloading. How would you trim these cases? Do any companies manufacture a case trimmer for this caliber?

See the above video.
Henry at Budget Shooter Supplies(see sponsor banners) whipped up a custom trimmer for me. Give him a shout.

After 5-6 firings, my Starline brass hasn't stretched
Can't speak for other x25mm brass. Alot of reloaders would say that
pistol brass in general doesn't really stretch that much to need trimming,
if at all.

On the project list for me when my dies get here from Budget. Anyone ever shoot any cast out of x25? The surplus chews up backstops at indoor ranges and plates at the outdoor ones. Also has anyone tried mexican match on these with soft point/cast?

i've used cast bullets from a Lee 311-100-2R mould and had no problems.
they were dropping around 99.2 - 99.7gr with my ww alloy at .311 - .312.
only went up to 6gr of Unique with Starline brass and Winchester small pistol primers.
don't have access to a chrony so i can't tell you what velocity i was getting with this load.
