Cool plate rack.

Can someone expand on why it wouldn't be allowed? I've seen vids with other moving targets, why not this one? Newbie question.

There is a long discussion on the IPSC global village about this (here on CGN too I think)...

Polish Plate Rack (from June 2010): http://ipsc.invisionzone.com/index.php?showtopic=11178&st=0&p=113988

Texas Star (thread begins in 2006): http://ipsc.invisionzone.com/index.php?showtopic=3348

And this one: ipsc.invisionzone.com/index.php?showtopic=11226

The summary is that it is not a 'practical' target - i.e. doesn't represent a real thing and that it isn't repeatable.

I'm not going to argue this, the decision has been made. I do enjoy shooting these carnival style targets and I was sad to see them go, but in retrospect I think it was the right decision.

It may be illegal for IPSC, but USPSA still considers it a fun addition to a match. I'm in the airport waiting for my flight to Vegas. I'll be shooting this contraption either tomorrow or Saturday. At the moment: I'm really looking forward to having fun with it.

Hopefully I'll still thinks it's fun after I unload and show clear.

Well: it was probably my best stage of the day... swinging, random, small targets are easy... 8 plates: 8 shots... it's those full sils at 7 yards causing me grief.

You know, the part where they stand at the start position going over the stage, usually with their eyes closed and doing their imaginary shooting and mag changes, doing it 8 - 10 times, just standing there, holding everybody up. Then the RO says "are you ready?" and they do the dance one more time.
Or maybe they're just thinking about being in Chocolate Land, like Homer Simpson, clown music playing in their heads.

Not an approved target.

Technical, the "targets" are the plates. Which are, of course, approved targets.

It is the target stand that has been disapproved. But, not by the rule book...the rule book being what governs the matches.

The reason you won't see them at a major (IPSC) match is that the stage won't get approved with them in. The powers that be have decided to not approve any stage with a star, or like item.

Honestly, if a basic swinger were a new thing, I doubt it would be allowed either.
