I would buy that in a second. Is this on the ee. Good luck.
I have been through every page of rifles on that site several times.

There are some decent deals but the price for this package is better than anything I could come up with there.

And they are lacking in the 6.5x55 department that is for sure.

The way I look at it I am getting the gun for $275 shipped with bases, rings, target crown, and sling, which beats anything tradex has to offer. Then the scope for $250 shipped is not a bad deal either.

I have seen pics, and it looks pretty nice, although the stock/scope position is not ideal with the sportered stock, but I am gonna give it a shot.

Unless something nice pops up in the EE this weekend. ;)

Although the 30-06 is a grand old all around cartridge, the 6.5x55 SE is also another great cartridge. Shooting a 125 grain Nosler Partition would also be a great choice for deer and bear. It is a very accurate cartridge and my choice of firearm (reasonable price) would be a CZ 550 Full stock.

Get the 6.5X55. Classy chambering and all you need for hunting anything in Canada! Here is mine, and it shoots even better than it looks.

x2 on the just get a T3 advice. those tradex guns may or may not have a decent trigger, may or may not have the holes drilled/tapped anywhere near staight and a dozen other oops that you will throw money at.
I have been through at least a dozen mauser sporters in 6.5 mm over the years some were great some were OK the worse one ever came from tradex. There are great mauser sporters out there but you don't find em online for 250 bucks from dealers.

Buying once is alot cheaper in the long run then gambling on unkowns

The Sporter is nice. Chopped and recrowned, with Iron sights, and a Leupold vxII 2-7x33 for $525.

I should also mention that my hunting grounds are going to be thick bush, and trails.

Not too many shots that even require a scope and riding the quad trails I would likely opt to use the irons.

This whole thing started out as a search for an iron sighted sporter

Given further info regarding the type of terrain & ranges expected of course the iron sighted rifle makes more sense.

And as you already know, the sporter 6.5x55mm with the Leupold VXII 2-7 is the way better deal of the two as well.

NAA.

I have used a target rifle In 6.5x55 for F-Class competitive shooting and a sporterized one hunting. It is a great caliber and the Sporter a very nice rifle.

I tested various bullets and settled on the 160 gr Round Nose (Hornady). It shot just over 1 inch in the sporter and was very good in both deer and moose. One shot kills.

The scope set at 2X would be an excellent bush rifle.

It's a shame we can't hunt with handguns here in Canada as Methinks an Encore in 6.5 Raptor would be handy.

Check this one out...

My grandson has a 6.5 model '96 that he 'sporterized' himself over the last 5 yr. It's no work of art but it shoots the nosler partition 140's very well. He has killed may whitetails, mule deer, 2 bears and a cow moose as well as 'yotes jackrabbits gophers and anything else it gets pointed at. My dad gave him a MK V Weatherby in 257 and it sits in the cabinet. These are good shooting dependable rifles and are the best of the milsurps for sure. Mark

The 6.5 is a very capable round and is a pleasure to shoot. It also is responsible for many freezers being filled each year, yours included if you do your part. All the ammo you listed is more than able to do the job you have described so pick one and go for it.

Anybody that nay says you on the swede is probably the next in line to pick it up! Just sayin!

They're both good rounds; the 06 is a bit easier to find as mentioned and a bit more potent for dangerous game. Depends how well you tolerate recoil too. If you're looking at a Swede, I'd look at a nice M17 sporter in 06 for equivalency. Best iron sights on any milsurp but a No.4, if you like a peep sight.

Tradex is a great suggestion. The cherries may be gone, but lots of nice ones left in 6.5 and other calibres, including 06.

It's more the rifleman than the rifle anyway.

Well it is on it's way.

For those who were looking it isn't on the EE, but came from a gentleman who I originally contacted about a scope.

The rifle deal I had with another member fell through, and I asked this gentleman to hold the scope for me till I could find another rifle for it. He asked me what I was looking for and what I wanted to spend, and gave me a few options he had not put on the EE yet.

Worked out great in the end, and just goes to show there is some awesome guys on here.

I will update with pics later if anyone is interested.

So I ended up getting The gun as described previously with the Leupold vxII 2-7, mounted with Leupold rings and bases, all for $500 shipped!

Awesome deal!!!

If you're going to reload and get the chance..try to find some European brass like Norma or Lapua..it actually has the proper dimension at the case head unlike Winchester and Remington. Not that you will have big problems with Winchester or rem which ive used but I prefer having everything nice and snug at the base of the case, especially on an older ex military action..but that's just me.

Now that is nice! Your teasing me. Is it for sale? What make and model?

It is nice, thanks. Not for sale as it was my dad's and I'm gonna use to till I die! Then my daughter will use it, and so on, and so on...:D

It is a Mauser carbine, dad had the stock custom made for it, sights put on, etc. And it does shoot like a hot damn, most of these old Mauser's do.
