New to the Polymer scene! Now what?

As the tilte states i am new to the polymer scene as i will be picking up my m&p9 next week. I am a big AR guy and there are purchases I would HIGHLY recommend to people new to the AR scene ( quad rail, B.A.D lever, p mags, optics etc)

I plan on doing some heavy competition style/ tactical shooting with the m&p so my qestion to you fine gentlemen is this:

What accesories do you highly ecommend i get for the m&p9??

All suggestion are welcome and appreciated. please be specific

Everything. And I mean EVERYTHING! Just grab a Brownells catalog in one hand, and your credit card in the other! This is the single best thing you can possible do with a brand new pistol. If it's got a rail, tritium, emits a laser, or jams into a hole, strap it on!

Forget about actually shooting! With 14 pounds of s**t hanging off your gat, you'll be a Pro-Star within, I would say, 250 rounds. That's like, an afternoon of pistol shooting!

Oh my.... I'm still laughing so hard that I might just pee myself from the memory of that video....:D

Synchro, assuming you didn't find yourself nodding in wonderment and agreement with all the stuff in that Ninja Glock video the only things you need for your new M&P are a nice holster, a duty or competition belt and a few mag pouches. Then sign up for your local IPSC or IDPA league and have fun. It's what owning a handgun in Canada is all about and is the most fun you can have from a day of shooting.
 
OK, back to reality. You've bought an M&P, what now? Well most people are less than thrilled about the M&P's out-of -the box trigger pull, the solution? Apex Tactical makes a kit, if you want a super dooper light trigger, get the CompAEK, but be warned, the trigger reset/return is somewhat dainty. If you want a good trigger with a reasonable pull weight and all around excellent characteristics get the "duty" kit, installation videos are on the internet, so it's a do-it-yourselfer. Incidentally, a syphallitic Rheeses Monkey could 'smith the M&P with one hand behind it's back, so if you like to tinker, you bought the right gun. Beyond that, well, ........ you probably need a holster or two - Safariland drop rig for when you're geared up and maybe a Raven for when you're not - a good quality belt for the Raven (Ares Gear is good) and some mag pouches. Beyond that you really only need a metric *ssload of ammuntition, and the time to shoot it. If you haven't been to a class I'd strongly suggest that too - given that you're in Ontario, if you can get into one of Earl's (OSTS/Phase Line Green) courses, just do it. You can thank me later.
 
I'm not an amateur to the sport of shooting I've just never owned a polymer pistol ( former 1911 guy) I appreciate the useful tips ( I heard the trigger isn't the greatest) besides the trigger mech, is there anything else I should consider to maximize my shooting experience with the m&p?
 
Just get as many mags as you can afford and as much ammo as you can afford and have at it! The M&P 9 is similar to the Glock 17, in that it works just fine out of the box but if you feel a true need to f**k with there's a million accessories for it.
Top recommendation is a visit to the APEX site and go from there.
The pistol will work fine out of the box though.

Sound advice. Lots of mags and ammo are most important. I am partial to Bladetech holsters myself, but there are lots of quality choices out there. Maybe an Uplula mag loader, if the mags are like Glock mags to load (OP is a 1911 guy, he isn't used to those nasty pinned mags ;)).

If you're used to the 1911, then yes an Uplula is an excellent piece of kit, and mags are, as always, a good thing to have. Other than that, you'll find that the M&P is kind of boring, you can change the sights, but the stock ones work just fine. There are lots of things you can do, but not many that you need to do. Even the trigger smoothes out eventually without the Apex stuff, but the Apex stuff is relatively cheap, so why not?
